I agree, trying some place like the Body Shoppe would be an idea. You could also check online for organic hair dyes, which could give you a greater variety. But don't rule out all the hair dyes you buy in a regular store, it might just be a certain type, unless this happens w/ many differen't dyes. Try the Garnier Nutress or the Clairol dyes which uses some of the natural ingredients (if you haven't already) Some of the cheaper stuff will leave your scalp dry and itchy, it is a chemical treatment after all, but it does tend to be the more you pay, the better the product.

Uh oh - you're allergic to the dye. The following suggestion is very TRUE - If you are the one coloring your hair, or if someone else is doing it, just have them mix in some sweet and low - that sugar substitute - into the dye mixture. I'm not kidding. I'm allergic, too, and this really helps - doesn't eliminate it altogether but really cuts down on the itching. You can also put Mountain Dew into the dye. Its a chemical pH thing that's going on with that stuff in it. Also helps if you take some allergy pills right before and after you dye your hair. Try it --- you'll like it !!

Well on the box of any hairdye it prompts you to do the check with the inside of your elbow before starting...

Someone has once bizarrely suggested to me that milk or yogurt on the scalp would calm down the reaction but I have to say I wasn't compelled to try... Maybe as a last resort? haha

There are organic hairdyes, look in any healthstore like Holland & Barret or GNC and you should find some. Or any stores that sell the organic health food kinds of stuff, like Luscious Organic...

AND by the way... Even tho I LOVE body shop, their stuff has all the chemical as the other stuff (sodium laureth sulfates etc). Organic ingredients at times but still chemicals... Unfortunately :(

Sounds like your scalp may be sensitive to the ingredients in the dye? Try rubbing some Aloe Vera gel onto your scalp to ease the irritation.

Try this website below for organic products

It's very probable you are allergic to the dye. If you're doing it at home, do the patch test.... If you have the reaction, don't dye your hair using that brand. Try a few different ones until you find one that doesn't make you itch.

I didn't know they made organic dye...

Yeah thats pretty normal. It happens to me too. If it hurts so bad you can hardly take it then thats not normal, and you might be allergic to the hair dye you are using. It could also be because you are leaving the dye in your hair too long. You can find an organic hair dye in any health food store. I think biotein makes it. Hope this helps.

Always test a small application on the back of your head under the hair so that you can tell whether or not you are allergic to the hair dye.

you should do a skin test 24 hours before. The only organic colourants i know is Henna, which is a clay and will turn the hair a reddy colour. Go to a good hairdresser.

You are allergic to the brand that you are using. This has happened to me befre too. Stop using it, your hair will fall out. You can put cortizone ointment from the drugstore on your scalp to stop the itching. it costs about $3. If you want something that wilnot itch at all but will give u really good temp color & shine- use Sebastians Color Shades. it is expensive, but really good
