boys are slower, my son had no desire to move until almost a year...then he just got up and walked...he also did not speak till he was two and I couldn't get him potty trained till he was three...both his sisters were out of nappies by 18 months, talking sentences by 14 months and walking at 9 months..don't worry, he will do it in his own time...

This could be cause for a trip to the doctor. It is my understanding that sitting up should occur around 6 months. My boy/girl twins are 4 months and both are able to sit up with very minimal support. I have been told milestones can be delayed due to birth weight or premature birth. If this is the case, your son should be having regular developemental assesments done at 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year..so on and so on. Also, if born premature use adjusted age to calculate milestones. I really think you should talk to your doctor as your son could have some developmental problems. Better to know now and rectify the situation then to wait and have him more behind.

I don't know where these fairy tales about boys developing more slowly come from.

It is possible that your son has some developmental delays (more serious than the 'he'll get around to it' suggestions). Are you seeing any other problems at all? If you sit him up, will he stay there? Does he roll himself over and respond and everything else?

I would take him in to be seen. And trust your instincts. If you have a nagging feeling that something is not quite right, you're probably correct.

Every child is different and they all go at different paces.
If that is the only thing he is lacking developmentally, then I wouldn't worry.
I would talk to his doctor at his next well baby and see what the dr thinks. If he does get concerned he will probably refer him for therapy and someone will come into your home once or twice a week and work with you together.

Children develop at their own rates. I don't think there is anything to worry about at all. Now if he's not sitting up by 10 months or something there might be a problem. I'm sure your doctor will tell you that he's fine.

I think that all children develop at their own pace, at your baby's nine month check up make sure you discuss your concerns with your doctor but right now I wouldn't worry too much, he may not be ready to sit up. But make sure he has reached othere developmental milestones. my son sat up at 6 months and didn't crawl till 9 months but he walked at 10 months all baby's are different good luck!

boys are not slower lol my son started sitting up on his own at 5 1/2 months .it just must be a girls thing to think boys are slower. just let nature take its course he will learn eventualy all kids are different its just a matter of time before they learn. you dont need a doctores advice when they just tell you the obvious and most likely tell you what i just told you. or you can pay for whatever extra help the doctor is going to tell you your kid need totaly up to you
