i have an 8 yr old daughter and i usually spend 300.00 on her...she also has aunts and grandoparents that buy for her. I now have a new baby this year...he is 8 months now...i will probably spend 25.00 on him since he could care less

I am usually making lists well before Thanksgiving and thinking about things. Trying to guess what they will wand and plan how much money I'll need.

I will usually have some stuff tucked away for stockings and such that I find on clearance throughout the year. (Example: Target had Disney Princess stuff in their dollar area recently so I have one daughter's stocking done except for some candy and an ornament.)

Right around Thanksgiving I actually start purchasing gifts. Amazon usually has a free shipping deal around then and I'll order a bunch of stuff online. (All three kids have bdays in either Feb or March, so we buy Bday and Xmas all at once and hide stuff away.) We usually spend about $400 including bday and Xmas, maybe a bit more by the time I finish stockings.

We have three kids. We try for 3 gifts under the tree from Santa each year, plus stockings filled. On Xmas Eve they get a book and a new pair of PJ's from mom and dad as well. Then, since I said we preshop for bdays at the same time as buying for Xmas, I'll have about 3 Bday gifts put aside as well.

Oldest is 7.5 year old boy (will be 8 yrs in Feb.). This year I'm thinking of getting him (split between bday and Xmas) -
Polar Express book for Xmas
Zathura or Jumanji book for birthday
magic kit
"string games" book with strings
new Pokemon Gameboy game
kid's digital camera
spy toys
Legos
computer game - maybe Unfortunate Events?

Middle - 5.5 year old girl (will be 6 in March) - to be divided between bday and Xmas -
book The Umbrella by Jan Brett
Ed Emberly drawing books with art supplies
Diego Rescue Center
"Tooty Ta" CD and shirt
potholder loom with loops
Dora van
something with treefrogs - maybe a stuffed one?
Diego or Dora computer game

youngest is 3.5 year old girl - will be 4 in Feb - to divide between bday and Xmas for her -
Falling for Rapunzel book
Leonardo the Terrible monster book
Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses computer
Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses dolls
12 Dancing Princesses DVD
Kelly Clubhouse
Zingo game
computer game with Barbie or Disney Princesses

I agree with you. We ONLY buy toys for Birthdays and Christmas, and limited at that. They get so much stuff from other people, that they never use any of it, and it just clutters up the house. We only buy educational toys as well. I think anyone with a brain would do the same. It makes 0 sense to waste money on stuff that isn't used, or is just cluttering an area. My 3 and a half year old, doesn't like more than just a few gifts. We have to space out her presents at the holidays, because she gets too overwhelmed and mad if theres like 20 things to open. She doesn't like more than 2-3 at a time. So we won't have to worry about her being a spoiled rotten materialistic snob later. Yay!! lol. She likes going to the zoo more than gifts anyways. So thats another good thing. I agree with you 100% and think that anyone that doesn't is just nuts! Who wants 1000's of toys all over the place, no where to put them, and to many to even be used....NOT ME! Just the money saved on toys that other people buy over say...10 years...will be enough money to pay my house off early by maybe...5 years with just that alone!!

MY 10 year old daughter wants a drum set(real one, she had the kiddie version). That should run about $500.00 and would be all she gets.
I always ask for lists and I never buy anything not on them. I typically spend 3 to 5 hundred on my daughter. STuffs expensive.

Oh, she wants an ice cream maker and like always, a horse.

I don't do any shopping until a few weeks before Xmas and I do it online if I can

My son is one, and I'm looking forward to this xmas, I still haven't started shopping yet but I ususally start after thanksgiving, I want to get him learning toys and musical books because it's what he enjoys the most. I don't know how much I'll be spending probably not that much since he'll probably like the wrapping paper better than the gift.

When your kids are really young Ages 1-3 be cheep cause they are more trilled about the paper, bows and boxes then the toys. Kids also don't care. When you over load them with presents I find that they play with them once and then forget about them. I think buy them one really nice gift they want and the rest of the stuff little like games, movies etc. But it's really your choice. Remember you not the only one buying for your children. Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, friends etc.

Just curious but what has changed in your circumstances in the past 2 months? 2 months ago you asked about getting government assistance and now you claim how you usually spend $300 on 1 child.
