I just want to know the basics. I mean there has to be a huge difference between hinduism and christianity. Do you think there is anyway to be both hindu and christian?

lol, for one, hinduism doesnt have any conversion.

you cant convert to hinduism...coz by definition hinduism means search for the truth, understanding the laws of the universe...
so technically everyone is a hindu...

and hinduism is against conversion...you will be the same person , you will have to eat sleep, get sick, everything is the same, so what converts?? Conversion is non sense,

you cant convert to newtons law of gravitation, its a law and it applies to all...thats the reason there is no conversion in hinduism...

and ofcourse mainly hinduism consists of 4 paths...
bhakti yoga, raja yoga, jyana yoga and karma yoga.

one is like buddhism

one is like christianity

one is like science and

one is like psychology..

Hinduism says, all religions are equal and are valid paths to god...

Hindus pray to krishna, hindus pray to christ and buddha and allah...

so, you will like hinduism very much if you like christianity...

but neways, my advise, dont convert...well there is no converstion ritual or anything in hinduism anyway...

Hindus for the most part, dont like conversion ,why should you leave your religion behind they ask, arent all religions equal...
why should you leave your religion? why convert to hinduism or anyother?

cant ur boyfriend accept your religion...?

I have seen many couples hindu with christian who go to temple and church, respect each others religions and customs

I think its easier if both follow same customs....it will make life easier for you and your kids...

if you are worried about religion, then no problem , hindus pray to christ the same way they pray to krishna...with the same devotion...

the oldest hindu scripture the rig veda says

god is one, the sages call it my many names...

customs are different...for christians and hindus..
hindus mainly dont eat non vegetarian...thats one change...
I guess that the only thing you have to change...
and silly things like putting on a bindi, and small things like that

hinduism is very open minded, no doctrine, no dogmas,
it simply asks you, have you realized god?

if not, then you are not a christian or a hindu or anyother thing, you have no religion at all...

and the highest sentence in christianity
and hinduism are the same

I and my Father are one...

Thou Art That( you are god, you and your father are one)...

you will find that hinduism is like mother of all religions, coz it accepts all religions, and says they are all different paths to the same destination...

like i said, among the 4 paths in hinduism

bhakti yoga is christianity
and
karma yoga is buddhism.

you will like it, good luck with the marriage.

Vedic Culture or Hinduism(as it is known now), is very detailed. There are 4 voluminous vedas, the Mahabharata, the Ramayana,18 Puranas, more than 108 upanishads, Vedanta Sutra and many commentery on vedanta Sutras. On top of that there are the smritirs or apara vidya which deals with sociology, politics, manners, omens, astrology and many more subjects...

How ever the essence is presented In Bhagavad Gita. Hence you can start by reading it at
http://www.bhagavadgitaasitis.com/en

If you want to read more books you can read at
http://www.krishna.com/main.php?id=33

Vedic Culture does not consider only one sage as all in all, and say that other sages are son's of Satan. You have prejudiced that it may be a "screwed up" religion, and you are not to be blamed for what you where taught in your society.
Still if you have sincere desire to know the Culture I would request you to kindly read Bhagavad Gita As It Is.

Namaste. As a Hindu, I think it's a little strange that he would even want you to convert. There is one God, and he is known by many names, and there are many paths to him. Your boyfriend should accept that you are a Christian, and it's on that path with which you have found God. I would not recommend you "converting" just for him if this makes you unhappy. Fundamentally, Christianity and Hinduism share many, if not all, of the same moral values. It is a common thought amongst us that everyone is almost bornHindu, but then chooses the path (Islam, Christianity, Judism) that best suits them.

Really express to him your concern, and what better way to find out about his religion than by asking! There is a lot to discover! If, however, you feel uncomfortable with this, feel free to send me an email with any questions or concerns you have. switch.angel@gmail.com

And, like I said before... don't feel pressured to follow his path to God. Yours is just as good!

Shri Ramanujacharya and Shri Shankara are diamonds within the crown of Bharat Mata and eye-opener to hinduism, hindus. Both debated with more than a few individuals and received. Both struggled in spreading Bhakti tradition and headquartered hinduism in a best location. Shankaracharya and Ramanuja fought false religions, fought for the hindus and we proud for having those Acharyas in our nation. Shri Ramanuja long gone forward a step extra spreading mystery mantras to be recognized to everybody.

ohioian, some people in india don,t understand their on religious practices just as some christians misunderstand the bible. I prayed directly to God ,please send me a teacher,he sent to me Swami Muktananda Paramahamsa then God imparted to me that all Muktananda spoke was the truth. You can find his blog on the net. Follow his teachings they are the same as Jesus taught, expressed with different words. you can still be a jew, baptist or muslim if you wish.
