It is not cruel at all to excersise your dog. Building muscle on any dog especially breed like this one is good for the dog and most of the time they will enjoy it. However, putting chains or weights or anything in that nature on the dogs neck can injure it and is cruel. They have weight harness' for dogs that are great for excersising. Also mentioned in the answers was a springpole. Pitbulls love the spring pole and it is the best way to excersise this breed. You must make sure to warm your dog up to this though. A brisk 2 mile walk before and after is sufficient for warm up and warm down. The bully house sells springpoles on ebay and at their website.

Please remember though. The minute your dog loses interest. STOP. If he doesnt want to do it, then he doesnt want to. Never force excersise upon your dog.

How To Build Neck Muscles

because people want their pits to look intimidating wether they are or not, the way to get them interested is the same as a flirt pole and all you have to do is tease the dog a little the teaseing is seen as play and the dog grabs hold, although pitbulls dont have locking jaws thats a myth their bite is scisor like a lot of other breeds but being bred to not let go is something that makes them do this, if you want ot build neck muscles specifically you can start by adding small weights to a collar or locks or using the biger chains if your dog is often chained thats how most people do it, and people do this with alot of breeds not just pitbulls , some people do it with their bulldogs, olde types especially ive seen it personally, jack russels even can do it its not magic just get a dog willing to hold on to something and not let go, another good neck muscle building tool is stick carying make the dog carry abig stick up a hill this will work their legs back neck and alot of other things or if you have a place to swim that they can have a large stick or paded doggy weight then you can have them retrieve it for you that will build everything even their heart/stamina

I own a pit bull and can't imagine why you would want to make the neck muscles any thicker and strong than they already are. Is fighting your dog in your plans (which is illegal). My advise forget the muscles and enjoy your dog. These dogs are strong enough as it is (mine almost pulls me down when walking her) without making them any stronger or more aggressive.

Putting weights around the neck will actually strain and stress the muscles, making them weaker. Please, stop using your pit to make up for your own inferiority complex. Love the dog for what it is and don't use cruel means in a sad attempt to make him look tougher. If you want a good looking pit, then get into weight pull and do activities such as springpole.

They have weighted neck collars just like weighted vest. You put on like a regular collar & leave it on for as long as you want twice a week. It's just like regular bodybuilding for humans, you give your muscles two days rest before you start working on that same muscle again. There's an organization called K9 Bodybuilding, check them out on Facebook. I'm a bodybuilder & so is my fiance & my three pitbulls,Satan,Sabbath & Hitler & they all are bodybuilders. I also feed them Bully Max. Happy
