The only "FREE" way to quit is to quit cold turkey! Drink lots of water, eat healthy foods, and avoid trigger situations for a while. I'm trying to quit now, too. I have the most cravings when I'm at work and when I go out to a bar or restaurant.

I used "Smoke Away" several years ago and ended up quitting for a little over a year. I don't know how it worked, but I remember not having any real cravings while I was using the product. I've tried the gum, and it does help with the cravings.

Someone else mentioned in another post that local hospitals might have a smoking cessation support group. That is a great idea that you and your husband could try. I live in Pittsburgh, so I'm surrounded by hospitals. There are tons of free smoking cessation groups, usually once a week.

If you're able to spend a little bit of money, try "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking". It's a book by Alan Carr. I think you can find it on Amazon.com for less than $9. I have not read the book myself, but a lot of my friends at work have. I have two coworkers who have successfully quit cold turkey after reading the book. I don't know anything about the book at all, but it might be worth looking into if people are having success with it.

One last bit of advice: don't quit alone. You and your husband need to support each other, and it's great that you're quitting together. I know from experience that it's nearly impossible to quit when there are other smokers in the house! Also seek the support and encouragement of your friends. Try relaxation techniques, or meditation, or prayer.

I understand how difficult it is. I continued to smoke even after my dad died of lung cancer at age 50.

It takes people several attempts to successfully quit, but you can! You're bigger than that cigarette, so don't give in to cravings. There's nothing about smoking that we NEED, right? Keep up the good work!

Best wishes,
AJ

Either stop cold turkey or buy a pack of cigarettes that you do not like. Everytime you smoke, you will think about stopping smoking. While you do this, stay away from anybody else that smokes, sometimes smokers are very rude, they do not care that you are trying to stop smoking, they will tell you anything to keep you smoking. So, get a pack of nasty cigarettes.......but remember, you, yourself must want to stop smoking or it isn't even going to work, it takes a strong will to stop an addictive problem. Be strong, good luck.

It's all in your head. Don't say "I'm trying to quit smoking" say "I'm quitting smoking." Start wherever you are now, and make a plan to cut in half each day how many cigs you smoke. Drink lots of water and get excersise. Keep busy so you won't be sitting around getting tempted to smoke. Be strong. Since you're weaning yourself off of them, that takes care of the physical addiction, the rest is mental. Even patches don't work if you don't have the right mental state. It sounds corny, but you really have to believe in yourself. You can do it! Good luck.

Wow so you think that since I let my daughter stay in a crib until she was "almost" four years old that I am a bad parent, but you can smoke and have sex with other girls and guys while your husband watches and your a good parent. Take a look at yourself before you judge others, I bet you buy your cigarettes with your welfare money that I pay for to.

Start smoking again. Buy a copy of the Farmer's Almanac and determine when the cycle of the moon corresponds to the head. When that happens, quit smoking cold turkey. I know it sounds crazy, but both my parents did it 20 years ago and they have never smoked again.

Quitting cold turkey is really hard but it is possible. My mother, best friend, aunt and cousin all quit cold turkey. It is very hard, but if you really want to quit, quit. Stop buying the cigs and buy lollipops, toothpicks, anything to keep your mouth busy. That worked for a lot of people I know. It's all about how much you want to quit. I hear many people say I want to quit, sure you want to quit but maybe right now you can't give the 100%. Make sure you absolutely ready to quit and do it cold turkey. You can do it.

Mind over matter. Keep it up. You can chew some sugar free gum, that's help. Good luck.
