Dear alopwonya,

The only thing that is harsher than death....is eternal damnation or the second death (Revelation 20). Every person born (except the Lord Jesus Christ) was born spiritually dead--dead in sins and trespasses (Ephesians 2:1-3). The child grows and becomes an adult. Intertwined in all of this is education, work, marriage?, and the problems of everyday life. Finally, there comes old age and death. This "death" is physical death where the body no longer can carry out the metabolic activities associated with life. But that Bible tells us that man has an eternal soul that continues on after physical life ends. That person (soul), if he/she has been born from above (saved) has eternal life. This individual will be in the presence of God (Jesus Christ) forever and will enjoy the highest good. On ther other hand, if that person (soul) has not been born again (saved) will spend eternity under the wrath of Almighty God in a place called the laek of fire in the Bible. Incidently, "hell" does not exist at this present time--it has not been created and therefore, no one is there yet. You see God is perfectly just. Therefore, no one can be condemned to hell (lake of fire) until they have stood trial and found guilty. All of this occurs on the last day (Judgment Day) when the Lord Jesus Christ will visibly return. As I said previously, all of mankind is guilty because of our sins against God. The only ones who will escape eternal damnation are those whom the Lord Jesus Christ has paid their sin debt. Christ is the sin bearer and the only One that could endure eternal damnation and come out again(He is God).

Depends on the delivery method of aforementioned death - it can be a release (ie terminal, degenerative ilnesses) or it can be a brutal, callous thing (ie Ken Bigley).

I'd say that if you were to be executed, the 2 or 3 minutes prior to the moment of death would be pretty harsh, as would be forced to watch your wife/child/ other loved one being raped.

Other than that, I'd say the sudden and unexpected loss of limbs/function would be harsh, especially if you were a world-class athlete or similar.

I don't think your own death is harsh, although I haven't died. I think what's harsh is surviving a loved person's death, OR knowing you're going to die. That must be harsher.

How do you know death is harsh. It might be the start of something good.

Hey, it could be the ultimate adventure.

If you are speaking of punishment, a life sentence in which the prisoner is constantly reminded that he or she has no freedom because of what they have done and making that person realize that their own actions have resulted in the lack of freedom is harsher than death.

The death penalty is far too easy of a punishment. It does nothing to try to rehabilitate the prisoner, it does not punish and considering that people still commit murder, it is not a deterrent to crime
