They lie down - I saw them lying down at London Zoo, lovely animals, bit chewy, but lovely all the same

The giraffe has one of the shortest sleep requirement of any mammal, which is between 10 minutes and two hours in a 24-hour period. This has led to the myth that giraffes cannot lay down and that if they do so, they will die.

So it can lie down to sleep.

Giraffes sleep about one half hour a day in five minute increments. The only other rest they take is when they close one eye and rest while standing up.

they lie down but only sleep for short intervals to take over from the giraffe on sentry duty so he sleeps then .

They bend their legs under themselves and put their heads on the ground. They need to make sure that the blood doesn't rush to their heads because it can harm them.
