You aren't being cranky, it's just common sence.
I've always walked on the right side, it's how I was taught we should walk in school hallways and how we are taught to drive.

As old as I am, I never really thought about it. Thinking about it, it does seem like a good idea--if everyone was aware of the rule. Where I live, it really doesn't matter much--you might be the only one on the sidewalk. I think you are being a bit picky here. No insult intended. Smile.

People walk on the wrong side of the sidewalk either becase they are rude, they are taking a "shortcut", or because they like going against the crowd!
Maybe their idea of left and right differs from your idea of left and right ...

I didn't know it was actually a law or even a rule...all I knew was that sidewalks are for people so stop driving on them. (i always try to walk on the right, but sometimes other people or objects won't let me.)

You are just being cranky....examine your definition of "wrong" side of the road. Have you ever considered living in another part of the world where your "wrong" is their "right"?

They are probably like me and did not realize that there were sidewalk rules...maybe they should paint lines and hire a sidewalk monitor to club people when they do this.

You have a point. It takes so much time to dodge around all these people and you always risk bumping into someone too. People should not stand on left side of escalators either so others can walk by.

I get your point. I see it as driving, however, there is no right way to walk on a sidewalk.

it'd be a good idea, but i don't think it's a generally known 'rule'. HOWEVER, when you go up/down escalators, you definitely should stand on the right and allow people to pass you on the left. It bothers me so much when I'm trying to make the subway train and people are hogging up the entire escalator so I can't pass them. :(
