You may want to visit the site www.ahicf.com. This site is dedicated to the history of the SNCF and is entirely in french but if you send a mail in english to ahicf@club-internet.fr, you will surely get an answer. A word of advice for dealing with the french: always start with the excuse that your french is less than perfect and that therefore you're obliged to write in english; this simple and polite trick usually works and you'll find the french very friendly and helpful for ever afterwards ;)
