I interviewed for a job as a teacher. Then they asked me to come in a substitute for a day...the principal came in and observed me many times. It went very well, she even said so. She introduced me to the Head of School, who said they would have a decision for me by Friday. Friday came and went and I didn't hear anything. Today is Yom Kippur, so there is not school. They also told me if I didn't get the position I subbed for, I would most likely get to teach Spanish for a teacher who would be having her baby. Then, I saw an ad in the local paper this weekend for that position. I feel like something went wrong, and I'm would like people's opinions on this.

Hey, it's okay. Since you said it was a school holiday today, you should not expect a call. Wait till abotu noonish tomorrow, if you still ahve not heard anything, give the interviewer a call back and ask them straight up whats the deal. The worse they can say is that they filled the position. As far as the spanish job being already listed in the paper? there is nothign to worry about. Our HR departments usually sends stuff to the papers for postings a week in advance, so technically you have not gottent he job YET, so the ad still runs, so dont worry about it.

I tend to think that a follow up call is in order. Often, things can get hectic in any type of business, schools included. So placing a call to them can remind them that you are still interested and it will refresh their minds about you. As far as the advertising for the position that you applied for is concerned. I wouldn't be too worried yet. Often times, most places like to have a large pool of candidates before they make a decision about who they want to hire. This is just plain old fashioned business sense. They just might be making sure that they have the most qualified person for the job or they may need to fill more than one position.

Call the person in charge of hiring at the school (principal, AP, human resources person, etc.). They may just be waiting to see if you will take the initiative to contact you, they may have lost the paperwork, or they may have just forgotten! Good luck.

chill out and find another. there are many things taken into consideration when hiring someone new - things that are often illogical even if you heard them. Don't mope over it. If they like you, they'll call you back. If not, you can find a place better suited to you.
