No animal can see in true darkness. Dog's have a better capability to see in limited light than humans. Also a dog's hearing is so acute that it can sense objects without actually having to see them.

Extremely well. My dog almost took my arm out of the socket as she pulled on the leash, got away and chased after a cat in nothing but moonlight. The only reason I could see my dog is I have a little light around her neck - all I saw was that blur of light as she took off!

Dogs can see in the dark; better than human but their eyesight is not as good and well-developed than their smell senses and hearing.

The difference between a dogs eyes and ours is that a dog has fewer cones (collect color) and more rods (collect light) so a dog sees colors about like a color blind person, and sees at night about like a person using night vision goggles.
