I believe they say that it takes about six weeks. If you are going on a cruise in January, you should defintely go get the passport now. I'm going on a cruise in March, and we got our passports already. I heard that as it get's closer to the end of the year, the wait time could grow longer due to the amount of people needing them.

The post office carry the passport forms. You need to follow the instructions for submission to the proper govt. office. Keep in mind that you are dealing with a slow moving govt. bureaucracy so it may take a while before you receive your passport.

I just got my passport and it took about 4 weeks from the time that I mailed it in. It was a renewal passport though, maybe those are faster than if you got a passport for the first time... you haven't specified in your question. It might be faster for you if you don't mail it in and instead go to your local Federal Courthouse and file it there.

I can take up to two months or you can expedite it for double the fee and you should receive it no more than two weeks after they receive it. I expedited mine and it took 5 working days. Have a great cruise.

It should definitely be there by January. If you need it in one day you need to walk it in, and you can pay extra for expedited (but not walked in) service or postage, as well.
