YHT-370 by Yamaha. Yamaha's are known for having the best sound quality for the price. I just bought one myself. Used to own the YHT-750. Check it out. Onkyo also has some that play louder, but aren't as refined sound. The Yamaha plays well for movies, tv, and music.

There are plenty of htib in that range but you pay for what you get. Usually the speaker quality is not that great. But if you want good speakers and good reciever you will have to spend a little more. I think the best way to go is to build the system. You don't have to start all out at once you might can start with your exixting system then start building

HTIBs suck. spend your $500 on a Denon or Yamaha surround receiver and add the speakers and DVD player as your budget allows. You'll get better sound and picture, greater flexibility and more durability.
