The town has to be located at an elevation of at least 2000 feet to qualify. I am looking for a long weekend somwhere, I live near Atlanta. Thanks for any help.

Depends on what you like to do. Asheville is nice, but a bit over populated for me. I like Boone, Murphy, Blowing Rock. Boone is a college town, but there are alot of things to do nearby, with alot of restaurants. Grandfather Mountain, Linville Caverns, alot of historical sites (Mast General Store, etc), and shopping. Jenkins Rentals has a ton of affordable cabins for rent at a reasonable price as well. Skiing, my personal favorite is Beech Mountain.

I recommend Bryson City, NC. It is about 3 hours from Atlanta. It's right next to Cherokee with the casino, but not so commercial. Also, Ashville really doesn't fit "little mountain town."

It's got the Great Smoky Mountains National Park there, and many scenic drives. Very scenic, plenty to do... but, still small.

Murphy, there is a lil place there you can rent cabins and its right next to a stream with multiple places for hiking. (oh and you can take your pets!!) Just stay out of Cherokee area (tourists) but it is worth a day trip.
