Before you leave the hospital with the baby, bring home a blanket or shirt or something with the baby's scent on it. Let the dogs sniff it. My dog didn't react very well to our baby at first, think he thought she was a cat or something. So, he spent the first month being locked in his cage or outside. He eventually figured it out and he's really good with her.
Just depends on the individual dog.

Initally the dogs will probaly be a little jealous of the newborn. But soon enough they will be become very protective of the baby, hopefully, and not want strangers around the baby. I remember when my first granddaughter was born their dog bit me on the butt one day when I was visiting as it was being protective. We laugh about it to this day.

depending on how YOU handle introducing the new baby to the pack... introduce the baby's smell by bringing items from the hospital. keeping the baby at a safe distance when introducing and giving the dogs an allowable space that's acceptable. be firm with the dogs.. you should remain in the alpha position and corrective measures used if the dogs get too close at first.

Well, there could be alot of things. I would introduce the smells of the baby to the dog before the baby arrives. Let the dog know that the smell is ok.

Shouldn't you be asking how the dogs will affect the baby?

What kind of dogs do you have. Are they all kept in the house? My mom has 4 yorkies and everytime we brought our new bundle of joys home all they wanted to do was lick on them. But if you have big dogs I am not foresure. how is there temperment with strangers. Just be careful and cautious, a dog can kill a baby in secs. Good luck
