I guess I've always wanted to know...and since Halloween is coming up, I thought I'd ask.

The ones you usually see in the arial photos are massive. I wonder how they make the designs so perfect....

the giant corn mazes you can see / venture through are proffessionally created using GPS and other tecnologies.... to plot the maze which is then put to the ground and the corn planted accordingly. It would be way too difficult to create it after the corn has grown.
Tree / shrub mazes are done the same way.... plotted out on the ground the plants planted accordingly.

They cut down the part that you will walk through. Or they keep that part from growing in the first place. It depends on what kind of plant you are using.

if you are wanting to set one up for holloween, you may want to use bales of hay. draw it out on paper first to make sure you do it right!
