Only if you eat just the cereal twice a day and do lots of exercise. You could eat the packet the cereal comes in and lose weight - as long you restricted yourself to two cartons per day and did the excessive amount of exercises!

Seriously, it's time people realised that the only people to really benefit from 'diets' are the authors of 'diet plans', and the manufacturers of 'diet food'.

Unless you have a physiological problem (in which case seek medical help), losing weight is really simple - just consume less energy than you expend and you will lose the excess. It's a simple scientific fact!

The way you lose weight is by burning more calories than you take in, so if the 200 calories or so you eat in cereal & milk at those two meals is less than what you would typically eat, you will lose weight. If you are already eating reasonable portions for those meals, then the Special K "diet" won't make a difference. The company that makes the cereal is banking on the fact that the average American is eating considerably more than 200 calories a meal so any kind of reduction will result in weight loss.

Ultimately, there is really nothing "special" about it - you could replace those meals with 200 calories of anything and you would most likely lose the same amount, but if you like Special K then go for it.

Edit: You DO need to follow their portion sizes. Measure it out. I know that most people have no idea how much cereal they pour into their bowls, but if you're not measuring then you're probably eating double or triple the recommended amount and that completely defeats the point. It's not the fact that you're eating cereal that's going to make you lose weight, it's how much you're eating.

I think it could work, but I don't believe it is the healthiest way to lose weight.
