We have been seeing each other on again off again for 3 years without a commitment to one another. I can't take it anymore, I want to be together and committed. The main reason he hasn't committed to me is my son. The fact that I have a child scares him. But, when I have told him I would walk because he has to accept my son and I, my son is a part of me! Then, he back pedals and starts telling me that my son isn't that big of deal, and maybe one day we will be in a committed relationship...my head is spinning. And I'm in love with this guy-heart and soul.

That is just an excuse. If you have been dating on and off for 3 years and he hasn't made a commitment to you yet, he never will.
Three years and he won't date you exclusively!!!??? That's absurd. You should have gotten rid of him if he wouldn't be in a committed relationship after 3 months! You are setting a bad example for your son too - do you want him to think that it is ok for a man to string someone along like this? I'm not telling you this to be mean, I'm telling you this so you'll stop wasting your time, and give this guy what he deserves - NOTHING.
