Some annoying telesales companies send out ghost calls so that they know what times in the day that you are in, they then arrange for a salesman to call in those time slots.
To beat the machine, keep pressing the hash key as fast as you can, the machine will log you as a faulty line and bump you from their system

They are probably sales calls the poor sods who have to make them have automatic dialling systems that dials a number every so many seconds. If they are talking to someone it automatically hangs up and dials the next number so the person doing the job immediately has a number ringing. The result is that when you answer they immediately go into their pre-prepared spiel. You can get onto Tele Preference who will stop a lot of the calls but they cant stop them from abroad and you can get BT to not put any call through which withhold the number. A lot of the sales people are getting wise to that last one and give a number but if you Dial it you don't get anything

Hi
This was happening to me last year.I phoned BT,and they told me it was "Call Centre's" They automatically call an amount of random numbers, and usually someone answers, and there is no one there, but sometimes there will be an operative.
On the other hand if you are getting nuisance calls they can put a block on the number if you know who the caller is?
They sorted this problem for me very quickly, give them a ring.

I had this same problem. It is usually telemarketers that are trying to contact you and something happens to disconnect the call on their end. You can end this by registering with the Federal Do Not Call Registry (with the TSA) and by contacting your phone company. Our local phone company allowed me to add a service that told callers that didn't display caller ID information that I was unavailable. This service cleared up the calls in a week.

This is due to the fact that sales companies have a computer dial 10 numbers and the person talks to the first one that answers.
The ones that dont pick up as quickly just get hung up on
If you phone your phone provider they can stop this happening and block all sales calls

Call your phone company, it may be some outside wiring problem or could be inside. Hope you have line backer service on your phone this could be very expensive to fix it not. Or perhaps some one is calling and hanging up on you, either way call the phone company and report it. Good luck

they are probably telesales. theyre on an automatic dialup and still make calls even when an agent isnt on the other end. contact your provider and ask to be put on the tps register. either that or u have a stalker so make a note of the calls and tell your provider and the police

Report them to the phone company and they'll explain what services they offer to stop nuisance calls.

First of all find another telephone set, try it. If problem clears your telephone set is bad, have it be repaired. If still you have the same problem the cause is the line or central office. Contact your telephone company.
