I heard that you need your passport to get back into the US. Is this true or can you just use your Birth Cert.?

You don't say how far into Mexico you would be traveling. I have only been into the interior of Mexico as far as Monterrey. I did not need a passport since we were staying less than three days. However, with our borders being watched so carefully and given the tenisons of U.S. relations with Mexico, I would seriously consider changing my destination for my honeymoon.

The Mexican government has never hesitated to use U.S. citizens as hostages for their own political agenda (latest example is Duane Chapman, a.k.a., "Dog the Bounty Hunter").

If you want clear information straight from the government (I'd advise this approach) go to: http://travel.state.gov/travel. It should get you the information you need. Hope the wedding is beautiful and the honeymoon is all you hope it will be. :)

I believe a Birth Cert is still OK.. I recently heard that very soon, you will require to have a passport to come back in from Mexico and Canada.

the passport isn't required YET.

If you take your vehicle, I'd recommend Mexico auto insurance. If you have an accident there, US auto insurance does not cover it.

They always let me back in with just a photo id. Might help it's a military dependent card, but my neighbor just showed a drivers license.

beware of the pharmacies. bringing back meds is illegal unless you have a valid American and Mexican prescription. plus there have been times that the meds have actually ended up hurting people because they don't have the same quality as us meds.

They moved back the deadline for a passport until June 2009 as part of the border fence bill. (Security giveth and Security taketh away....)

Birth certificate is what you need to get back, with governmental picture ID so you don't get held up going either way.

You can get back with your birth certificate and a photo ID. Dont forget to request a Tourit Visa for Mexico and returning it when it expires. You will be fine by immigration in Mexico on your next visit. If they find out.
