Your body is expending A LOT of energy in the first trimester. That little baby is growing and needs more than your body can provide on fat reserves. Don't expect to lose weight at first. Just make sure that you're not eating a lot of junk food. Eat fruits and vegetables and grains. I have found that eating whole wheat bread (carbs) makes me feel better and stops my hunger. (I'm 26 weeks now). Also, if I'm hungry and try a little snack, that just makes things worse. Plan to eat more small meals through the day, this (hopefully) should make you feel better.

congratulations!

I am overweight and went through 2 pregnancies in which I only gained about 15 lbs. but ate constantly. I never gained much during the first & second trimesters but EVERYONE gains during third trimester because you are growing a baby that will be approx 6-9 lbs. and you have a placenta in there that weighs a lot and water retention. Eat when you are hungry! Eat good things even when you are craving bad things (I craved fast food french fries like you wouldn't believe but made myself a baked potato instead.) I used to eat all day long but very small amounts that would appease my hunger. Once you have the baby, you could be down more weight than what your starting weight was, but eat smart and when you are hungry because you don't want to starve your baby or your body that is working overtime creating life.

NO! I am overweight also. I thought the same thing, "there is no way I can be THIS hungry all the time". I found out at 12 weeks there were two of them in there. So I was eating for three. Your body doesn't and can't take your exsisting fat and convert it into food for the baby. Eat when you want, now is not the time to skimp.

you are no longer eating for one; you're eating for 2. You might feel that you're hungry, its actually the baby who wants to eat. There's nothing you can do. Wait until you get the weird cravings, like hot saugage and ice cream (the current craving my sister in law is having)
