Instead of buying something that only costs 3 dollars for one meal...try this:

Buy a $4 dollar fryer chicken. A few carrots, 1 garlic bunch, a package of celery, one yellow onion, and some egg noodles.
Cut up your chicken and place in a large crock pot or on low setting on the stove. Cut up your veggies and place everything in except the noodles. Salt and pepper and add whatever spices to taste. I use a lot of thyme and rosemary myself. Add water or if you prefer...buy some chicken stock.
Boil pasta, drain and set in refrigerator. I put mine in zip lock bags. Use as needed.
You will spend about 8 to 10 dollars, but if you split it up by meal...for about 12 servings it's only about $1.50 per meal or less! You can freeze whatever is left over...
This works for chilli, beef soup or stew, stroganoff, etc. Prepare your meals like that and you will cut your grocery bill down a bit.
Also when buying meat:
An example...
Buy a $23 - $25 sirloin. Partially freeze it. Then you can cut about 6-8 steaks, one roast, and a bunch of beef cubes for soups and stews. Buy the time you do all of that it adds up individually to about $45 dollars or more had you bought the individual peices. Then you get more meals as well, stocks your freezer, and you save a about $25 or more!

The never fail spaghetti! Box of noodles for .75, sauce for 1.50 or so and a little groundbeef. I also like to buy a cheaper cut of meat and put in my slowcooker with seasoning and let it cook all day and it will just fall apart...serve over noodles or mashed potatoes...
