No but I have seen socially inept homeschooled children, those who grew up with a limited view of the world and zero skills for understanding boundaries that exist outside of their home and educational environment.

Bringing guns to school is not taught in the school and it's not taught at home either. Unfortunately, one media incident feeds the next one in this case. Now the occasional child with adjustment/social/behavioral disorders finds killing people the way to deal with the built up pressure. What CAN be done at home is to make all aspects of a child's life an open book to the family and this DOES involve attentive parents. It's not enough to ask your child what he/she learned in school today. When they're very young the dialogue should go something like: What was the worst thing that happened at school today? What was the best thing that happened at school today?

The reason why this needs asked as such is because most parents get a one word answer when they ask their kids how school went or what they learned. These other two questions let you know the larger picture of what their kids' school life is like. If there are social difficulties, you'll be able to pick up on them much faster and help work something through with your kid. When the best thing is addressed (and it's always the second question because you want to end this on a positive note) you get to see a more detailed picture of what makes your child happy......and we all would like to know more about that topic.

Get in your kids' heads as much as you can, be involved in their lives, even the parts they didn't welcome you into and perhaps especially those parts. We can't remain so disconnected from our children; they need us.

But don't think for a second that homeschooling is the answer. The jury is still out on it and it's a terrible thing to shove it down the throats of people who truly cannot work that into their family lives as an option.

No but I have read of children in public schools and private top of the line schools go to the home of other children and kill them.
Schools need to re overhauled.
First we need more decentralized schools with no more than 300 students per school.
We need dress codes in all of them (uniforms) from kintergarden thu high school.
Our educators should stop bringing in historical figures who were none existing or were not the famous heros the schools now paint them.
We need teachers to be more attentive to students who are shuned or picked on by others, and not permitt it.
In high school we do not need a student to take 4 years of english, reading, social studies, Unless he/she shows aptitude for higher studies and the will to do them students should be put into vocational schools. Most students could come out of high school able to make a good living if they were trained in areas of employment instead of so many useless classes that only gives the teacher a job.All audents should skip the last two year sof high school english and take advanced computer course()not the silly computer courses most small or vocatechs colleges offer with "windowds 95, 98, and other now defunct systyems.
There is no reason for a child to leave high school with out being able to build, wire, and use a computer.
We should be more attentive tothe type of teachers we hir eand pay them enough that we can hire the best instead of so many preditors.
Students in all grades should get a decent meal(which they do not) . Most meals at school would never be used at home or in a casfeteria and they suck.
We should have law enmforcement at school on a daily shift, and know who belongs there and who do not.
we should require all schools to have at least equallly mixed sports programs with all students attending to some degree. IN a basketball or foot ball game there should be no more of tyrone getitng the ball 50/100 times a games. share the sweat/ share the glory.
No team in high schoo, middle school or college shlould have 90% black membership unles their school is 90% black. or (0 % white unless their school is 90% white.
People like jesse jackson , bill clinton, and michael jackson should be explained in schools for what theyreally are not what the media paints them.
Schools should explain our history as it used to be and as it is, not politically correct to appease a few.
Students who bring drugs to school or use drugs should be punished to the extend they stop or spend their school in a militay type school.
All trouble makers should spend their school in military type schools or if convicted of crimes they should pay the price.

I'm actually surprised gunmen haven't gone after home schooled kids yet. Maybe the world is just crap. I was homeschooled for a while, my brother too. The worst trouble we got into was stalking the neighbors cuz we were bored.

Lita:

No I have never heard such a thing. My four children received mixed education with public, self pace, and home schooling. All with parental involvement.

BTW, if one of my kids had done such a thing, they would have surrendered to the cops rather than face me.

Awesome opinion and excellent point of view. There should be more tools for parents to train kids at home. They'll both benefit.
