A lady in my Sunday School class used to work at a fundamentalist Christian school, and she said that they believe that Jesus lived a lot less than 2000 years ago because our methods of dating are all wrong. I've heard of people believing that the Earth is only 6000 years old, and I guess I can sort of understand how somebody might think that, but this one is just too ridiculous. I think that she might just have misunderstood them. Have you ever heard of this?

I don't think many people actually believe Jesus was born less than 2000 years ago. This is not a dating issue - the fact that this is 2006 A.D. (anno domino (sp?), which means 'year of our Lord') implies that Jesus lived 2000 years ago. I agree that I'm not sure that 0 AD was the exact year Jesus was born, since it wasn't until a few hundred years later that this calendar system was adopted, so 2006 plus or minus a few years, but nothing significant.

As far as the other issue about the Earth being 6000 years old, many people have that opinion. I am Christian but I do not believe this. In fact I think the big bang is pretty accurate. If we study the sequence of events after the big bang, the story of creation is similar.

According to historical events mentioned in the Bible, Jesus was actually born a few years, something like 4-6 before the year 1 AD

When you have a "God can do anything" atitiude then of course it has to be true. It is amazing that is the best argument the Christians have. To any kind of question about God they cant answer it always " Because he is God and he can do anything" There is no explanation, just that its Gods will and we are not to question it.
Yeah right.
