First I just gotta say Pits are GREAT dogs and like any other dog they see us as members of their pack. With dogs packs there are hierarchies which would be the alpha and then the lower members. It looks like he sees you as a low member in the pack, hence his lack of respect for you. Spend time with him but always make it clear you are above him. Do not let him get away with hurting you. I do not condone hitting dogs (it at times turns them aggressive) so telling him "no" in a loud stern voice and then turn away from him. When does behave appropriate praise him and play with the way you want him to play. If it gets too rough stop the playing until he calms down. You also may want to be the one to feed him. A lot of dog training is based upon their natural instincts, and if you are controlling his food he will see you as the on in charge. You have to gain control over him and make sure other household members do the same. And there has to be someone the dog already sees as the boss so ask them to help you by enforcing the same rules you.

This doesn't sound like a good situation at all. It sounds as if you know nothing about dog behavior, and even less about how to properly train a dog. Because of this, a pit is definitely not a breed you should be owning.

Go and get some books on dog behavior and enroll the dog in an obedience class.

I notice I've received a thumbs down, and can only assume it's from you. Look, you really need to look at this realistically. Larger dogs need obedience classes and owners who are willing to educate themselves on their temperments. You can't just get a breed like a pit and expect it to train itself. This is true for most dog breeds, but things like pits, bullmastiffs, shepherds, dobermans, rotts....they all need proper training to ensure the safety of their owners and bystanders.

And it doesn't matter how much time you spent with him when he was a puppy. If he's being aggressive towards you, he'll be aggressive towards other people that he sees as not being a part of his pack. He needs help, and it's yours and your family's responsibility to get it for him.

I am sure that other will have more skill at replying to this but from the short description I would say the dog is trying to assert it self with you......maybe it is just not sure where he is in the pecking order in the family where you are concerned..........

I have a pit bull and we did not have her from birth BUT she most certainly is very clear as to who is the alpha and where she comes in the order within the house.

I would also see if you can become the one that feeds him fr a while...............you lay down the breakfast and the dinner BUT he sees you doing it..........that way he might start being more subservient to you as you are his source of food.

What do your parents do when the dog does this to you??? and to be honest it does not sound as if the dog is attacking..........trust when a pit attacks this is NOT what happens he is more showing who is boss and he MUST relearn who that is........

You need to win his respect before his friendship.Watch "The Dog Whisperer" on the national geographic channel or get Cesar Millan DvD "People training fir dogs. Your dog does not veiw you as "Pack leader" Walk him on leash this is a great way to Bond with your dog. He must walk next to ,or behind for you to be the leader. When he jumps on you or plays rough, ignore him, turn your back or walk away. Blowing him off will tell him that behavior is not acceptable.

it is irresponsible to ignore aggresive behaviour in a dog like that. It cant be allowed.

Also your dog may have problems if it was taken away from its mother at 5 days old....

give him a piece offering (a biscit). Tell him no very sturnly when he trys to bite you could also try a time out (get him muzull and put him in it when he starts and let him know why your doing it. I've found dogs can be just like little kids just talk to him like he's one, not baby talk regular talk.

good luck

because of the fact maximum of pits are owned via macho asshats who think of possessing a unfavourable dogs makes them a super, difficult guy. i think of instead of outlawing pit bulls, they'd desire to limit jerks from possessing canines, era. yet those are stable canines and that they could be aggressive, particularly in direction of different canines -- it`s hardwired of their brains. despite you do, don't get a pit that`s a similar intercourse as your dalmation, and DO get it fastened as quickly as available. My sister has various canines (they stay in the rustic) and one is a pit bull, the different a mix. the mixture has no issues, yet they'd`t permit the pit out with one in all their different canines... the worry-infant became a rescue, probable a scuffling with dogs at one time who the two became dumped or escaped, and he or she`s somewhat risky. yet my sister did somewhat study on dogs-bites as quickly as, and became astonished to study that the biggest style of bites have been from -- Labrador Retrievers! yet - as others have reported -- pits have been bred to chew and kill, and their bites are lots extra risky. in case you get a pit doggy, take it to doggy type and socialize it from day one. in my opinion, I wouldn`t have one till it became my purely dogs, because of the fact the dogs-aggression is quite a intense subject with that breed.

pitbulls are dangerous if you are not in control, you have to let him know you are alpha, dont let him do what he wants, take control, and that doesnt mean hitting him
