The Prophets seemed to be able to do it without prophets... So yes, you can. How do you know that you have found the "real" God? I believe that God will want people to all be united and know His truth. It doesn't make sense then to allow everyone to come up with their own version of truth. If there is a God, there is one truth. If God loves us, He will want us to find that one truth and will want unity in that truth.

You ARE correct that theists and atheists are really both agnostics, since neither one KNOW objectively whether ANY "god" does or does not exist. However, the theists CLAIM that "god" does exist. When you make such a claim, you are required to prove it or your claim is not valid. Atheists do NOT claim that "god" does NOT exist, they simply say that until the theists can provide proof that "god" does exist, they see no reason to believe in one. There IS a difference. One side makes a claim (theists), the other simply says "prove it". You cannot prove a negative and there is no need to do so anyhow, the burden of proof is on the one asserting the positive. Blessings on your Journey!

I did, too. Religious tradition can be helpful, but there's a lot of chaff with the wheat. You have to winnow them. And in the last analysis, you have to believe what you see to be true, not what someone tells you is true.

However, it didn't make me an orthodox believer. It took me into heretical liberal free-thought, where I'm now happy to be.

Not only can you but you have to. Books and prophets are guides to the divine however it is for each individual to find God through their own strivings.

That's the best way to find God, on your own. Not relying on the Bible, Jesus, priests, and all that.

Yes, you can. God or diety reveals itself from within our own selves.

If any such entity existed, he would never allow himself to be confined to a book or the words of men.
