I know you can get liver disease and stuff like that. But does it start messing with your mind? Does it really kill tons and tons of brain cells? I drink maybe once a week, but when i do, I get very drunk, and stay up late.

Of course it affects your mind, although in the main only temporarily whilst you are intoxicated. You may experience undue happiness or sadness (alcohol is a depressant) and of course there is good old Dutch courage where you think you are five times as capable as you really are.It also removes inhibitions, hence drunks having to apologise to all and sundry the following morning.

Long term, persistent heavy drinking will ultimately lead to bouts of forgetfulness.

As you are asking this question I assume you are quite young or you would know all this. Personally for the youths to have a blow-out once a week, I can't see a great problem with it. The real problems come when once a week turns to twice, thrice and eventually every day - that is when you have a serious problem - you will not be able to go a day without some form of alcohol.

Yes. It increases the rate at which the brain cells die. The brain cells die even normally - all cells keep dying and getting replaced.

The replaced cells retain the memory, but it is not a perfect process.. We do loose out certain things. And the more the cells die, the more will be the errors.. And the faster they die, the more difficult is it to retain the memory.

And cancer/tumors are also more likely to happen.

So by excessive drinking, you're making yourself the equivalent of an old man, and risking brain tumor.
