Well, I don't know the answer to "why" others feel bad for you. Only they themselves can answer. But I understand why you may not have or want a religion. First, that is your culture. That is how you were raised and so it feels comfortable. Second, it is tragic to say, but the world's religions have earned a terrible reputation when it comes to representing God and have "turned people off" to the idea of a creator. Religion has led the way into most major wars of our time and of past history and is doing so right up to NOW! But the question arises, are they representing God's wishes by doing such things? The Bible does not condone violence, warfare, or the meddling into politics that it would take to lead the world into war.

The Bible and religion seem to differ completely from each other on many subjects. And that statement stands true whether you believe in the Bible or not.

Religion can also turn people off to the concept of a God when they say that all events, including heart breaking tragedies, are all orchestrated by God. This popular belief is absolutely NOT found in the Bible. In fact the Bible itself clears up that belief with the Scripture at James 1:13 that says "with evil things God cannot be tried, nor does he himself try anyone." The key words being "with evil things."

If you ever decide to look into the idea of a creator, I highly recommend a throrough study of the Bible.

Hi, I am American. I was raised in the Catholic "faith".

I believe in (my) God, and I believe in (my) Bible.

I was told something one time that stayed with me -

"Do not ever confuse God with religion."

(IMO) "Religion" is a "business" - an "organization".

I do not believe that one needs to enter a building to have faith in (my) God.

When you say that many of the Japanese people are not religious, I interpret that to mean that the Japanese people have a faith in something, however, they do not "preach", and are not "holy rollers".

From my studies of the Japanese culture, I have learned that, for the most part, the Japanese have high morals and adhere to a polite and proper "code of ethics" and/or behavior.

The aforementioned statement does NOT include the decadence that abounds within the culture that allows a free will - or a freedom of choice to govern an individual's life.

In answer to your question: No, I do not believe in "religion". I am a Christian, and I believe in (my) God. I practice, in everyday life, a kind and peaceful existence that allows individuals to honor each other in a loving and respectable manner.

Culturally, America is the most "religious" country among modern industrialized nations. There are much higher beliefs in god and all related ideas than in countries like Japan, Canada and all of Europe.

The only countries that have equal or higher belief levels are the Middle East, Africa and parts of Asia.

Americans are very parochial in their thinking, very insular, and assume that the rest of the world thinks like them, or should. They assume we all want to be "just like them" and really don't understand why we don't, or what we find obnoxious about American culture.

Don't feel bad, just speak up for your own beliefs...or lack of.

they think in absolute rubbish for a plethora of motives. For one, they have been suggested from an exceptionally youthful age (on an identical time that they think in Santa Claus and the enamel fairy) believing that there is an infallible deity which will punish them for any insolence or deviation. This god is inescapable, everywhere is this gods jurisdiction. additionally, perception in god could be acceptable. human beings will continually take a comforting lie over an unsightly reality. they think in heaven and what not not because of the evidence, yet because of the usefulness and sufficiency of it. i'd desire to circulate on and on; however the main considerable ingredient is that as long as guy is terrified of loss of life, and desires speedy and common convenience, they're going to proceed to hang to fallacies and falsehoods in spite of evidence.

If you ask me? My answer is YES. I believe in GOD. Jesus Christ is my savior. We respect others who are non-believers of Christ, but totally have in mind that GOD does not exist is strange.

A lot thinkers, scientists do not believe in GOD simply because they use their brain on logical explanations.

There are a lot of things that is illogical, but true/exist.

Question:
Do you believe in black hole in the universe?
Its true about black hole. All matters shrink into it and even time will stop inside it. Some explanation that all matters will reappear in another universe - like you fold a map and use a pin to poke thru it, u goto the otherside.

No offense, but I still respect your decision.

Even though I am a believer, sometimes I do think otherwise. How come a lot of my prayers are answered?
Is GOD giving me the answers or is it I am tapping into my sub-conscious which gives me the positive results?

Just a thought for you.

btw, I am Chinese born in Malaysia.

cheers

Yes, you are right. It is always your choice. Religion is religion and there are many of them. I just pray that you will get right with God and go after a relationship with him rather than just a religion. :o)
