Perhaps even impersonating him by saying it?

Interestingly, there are Sufis (Muslim mystics) who say that even to assert one's own existence is blasphemy, for exactly the reason you describe.

See? Traditional theism leads inexorably to existential suicide.

No... look, I know the difference between when someone is calling my name, and when a Greek person is talking about certain bugs.

If I, being a mere human, am not personally insulted when someone says, "I hate bees", how much more is God not insulted if I were to say "I am going to the store".

Did I proclaim my name to be "I am"? No, I would simply be stating what I did, using the conventions of the English language. I had no intents on using God's name improperly. My purpose would be to talk about myself, using the word "I", and what I did "am". Now, if I were to use "I am" followed by a long string of insults, with my heart and intents directed at God, then, yes, it would be blasphemy. If I did the same thing, but my heart and intents directed at myself, then no, it would not.

And even if by the slightest chance, my name *also* happens to be "I am" (and I have no middle or last name), God knows the difference between Him and me, and would not confuse our names (IMHO, He'd probably have pity on me for being stuck with His name, and understood that I had no choice in the matter). And even if by the even more remote chance my parents were ignorant or arrogant enough to name me "God", I'm sure the Lord *STILL* knows the difference between us, and that my actions are not His actions.

No. I AM is a translation of the Hebrew YWYH. But if your aim is to proclaim yourself God or equate yourself to Him then it is blasphemy.

I am is only your affirmation of identity to the person asking your name.

Careful. You are sounding a bit too Buddhist there. Actually none of us are 'I am'. 'I am' is an illusion.
