China's country code is 86, the area code is 024, and the number is is a 12-digit number: 1394030XXXX instead of the normal 8-digit for land lines. I can't get this number to work.

If it is just a cell phone, then you don't need the area code 024, it is just 011861394030xxxx. That should work.

if you wanna text a message from Canada from a Canadian phone service, you have to ask them. but if you using a Chinese service( Go Tong of China Mobile company) , you could just type and send as you were in China.

If you wanna call a Chinese mobile phone from outside China, you could just dail : 86+ phone no.
if you call a land line, 86+24+phone no.

I'm kind of confused but if you're not getting help, then I would suggest making a new Yahoo account and delete this one. Maybe get a new cellphone with a better plan. Getting questions from your renter? I'd live somewhere else. Never give out any information unless you have to and you're positive it's in safe hands.

Try 86-1-394-030XXXX

My wife is Chinese and that is similar to her number. Also, I have to dial 011 first. I don't know if Canada is different than the U.S.

Just dial the country code adn the number. With cell phones, the area code is not all that important.
