First thing you need to do is replace your brake light switch.

This switch may be the cause of all your problems, or it was the cause of your initial problem and you have made it a lot worse.

The brake light switch can be found by following the brake pedal. Follow the brake pedal shaft upward to where it meets the master cylinder from inside the car. Typically you have to get in an awkward position, but pushing the front driver seat all the way back helps.

You may also have to remove the lower panel to view up the brake pedal shaft. About mid way between the brake pedal and where it connects to the master cylinder is a switch. Typically the switch is depressed when you are not stepping on the brake pedal, and the switch is not depressed when you are stepping on the brake pedal.

This switch is why your brake lights don't work, as well as why your car won't shift out of park. Most vehicles have a built in safety that prevents you from shifting out of park if your brake is not depressed. Since this switch is not working, it's basically telling your vehicle you are trying to shift out of park without your foot on the brake.

It may also be what is causing your short, but I can't say for sure.

Replace the brake pedal switch. If you do it properly, your brake lights will turn on when you step on the brake and turn off when you release the brake pedal. If that works, you should also now be able to switch out of park with your transmission. And hopefully your fuse doesn't burn out.

If your fuse still burns out, that means you've got a short circuit somewhere else that needs to be fixed. It may have caused your brake pedal switch to burn out in the first place. Again I can't say for sure, but replacing the brake pedal switch would be the first thing I'd do. (Typcially $10-$30)

Good Luck.

Had an identical concern with a jap automobile. once you press the brake pedal, a change comes on which prompts a solenoid to launch a lever making it accessible to shift from park. at the same time, the brake lighting fixtures come on. If both (brake lighting fixtures and kit shift) aren't any further operating, it could be the change itself or the fuse controlling them. That develop right into a jap automobile. it may or might want to no longer be a similar with a ford crown.

Had a vague problem that was similar and it turned out the column switches were shorting out. Have someone look at the switch gear on the column.
