Under Islam, as a man, does he have the "obligation" or right, to force his decision upon his unwilling immediate family?

no Allah says in the qur'an that there is no compulsion in religion, and that truth stands clear from error.

CAPITAL NO. He does not. He may however explain to them the truth of Islam and convince them in a subtle way, in a situation whereby they refuse he just has to leave them to worship what they are worshipping.

No he doesn't have the obligation to force it on his family but he should try to guide his family on the straight path.

he doesnt hav the right to force his belief to others.
There is no compulsion in religion, in Islam.

If it is still done, this is not Islamic teaching.
Same as why does people become thugs, it is their own self, not propelled by religion.
