I have a 12 wk old daucshund / mini pincsher mix. She's been with us since the second week of august. We also have a 6 month old maine coon kitty. They get along quite well. Meisha (my dog) has a habit of sneaking into the kitty's room (they both have their each rooms) and getting into her litter box, only to eat her poop! I don't understand why she does this, and why she won't stop! We have dewormed her, she's had her first shots and everything, and she's totally healthy. I'm afraid her habit will get her sick one day.

Another thing that we've had a problem with is Meisha not going potty outside. We will take her outside, stand there with her for an hour...she won't do anything, then we will come back inside and she'll automatically go poop and pee on the floor. Why is she doing this? We can't keep her outside because our neighbor has 3 pit bulls that I know wouldn't hurt her purposely, but they wiegh a good 130 lbs/ea, and Meisha is only 3.7 lbs. What do I do? What can I do? HELP!

Thanks to all of you who answered. Although I feel I should make some things clear. Someone is always home with her, and if she's that young, knows how to sit, stay, shake ,dance and everything else then I suppose that means that I DO train her, and obviously well. I honestly don't think it's a matter of how well I train my dog here, folks.

Another thing - why do some of you feel yuou must give the most smartas*ed answers? Leave that to the dumb questions. Or, try getting a life instead of trying to find ways to piss people off by being an as*. Either way.

Ok, to all of you who aren't reading my question before answering...and to those of you who feel you must assume I'm lazy....

The cat litter box gets cleaned daily. It's one of those ones that scoops it to the back immediately after the cat goes potty. The back is tottaly inacessable to my dog. So I only have to presume that my dog goes in at the same time my cat goes to the bathroom and gets it before the heat sensor kicks in.

As for the dog food - it's all natural, and was recommended by my vet because my dog won't eat regular dog food such as kibbles n bits or eukanuba.

Thanks to all of you who answered my question. Hopefully my vet will figure something out if that powder doesn't work.

Dogs (Especially min pins) tend to like it because it probably tastes somewhat like their food. There are medicines that are sold at almost any pet store for that problem and it works. I have a min pin that used to do the same thing and since we gave her that medicine she doesn't even look at it!

My 12 weeks old Yorkie puppy does it too. I don't have a kitty but he eats his own poo. What I do is watch him like a hawk and I roughly know the time he will poop or I watch for his body language. Then I grab him to the litter box or usually 15-30 mins before the time, I bring him out...walk him till he poops and quickly grab the poo before he could smell it/eat it and throw away so he don't have the chance to get to it :P Sometimes, I fail to catch his signal, I will grab a newspaper and when he poos, lay the newspaper where he is pooing, and poo drops on the newspaper and throw it away. He don't get to smell it not to say eat it and it solve the problem until I can think of what to do next for him to stop doing it.

The Winnie dog part of your dog is very possessive and Territorial and it's very possible that your dog is trying to lay down who's-who around here. you might want to feed the little dog a bit more and try putting some Cayenne pepper in the box...last resort is to put some Tabasco pepper sauce right on the poop and see if this doesn't help. good luck, hope this works for you :)

I had the same problem with a lab I once owned. I tried the powder from the vet. I believe it was called "Forbid," and it didn't work for my dog. I also tried adding Adolph's Meat Tenderizer to her food, which also didn't work. What did finally work was adding some crushed canned pineapple to her food.

Good luck.

my dog jax does that. I dont know what it is about cat poop but they love it. you should clean it out daily to keep that from happening. or you can get one of those litter boxes where they enter from the top. you can find them at petsmart or petco. they are very neat and you dont have to worry about the dogs getting in there to have a snack.

dogs eat poop especially cat poop because of the hi level of protein you should check your puppy food and see if it has enough protein in it and talk to your vet to determine the appropriate amount of protein she should have. as for the potty training all I have are outside dogs so I don't know

1. clean the poop.
2. make the poop unaccessible if you are too lazy to clean it.
3. get rid of the cat.
