that you claim there is no God when the overwhelming majority of the world disagrees with you? The last I'd heard, something boarding on 95% of the worlds population believes in some form of higher being. In psycology that would be enough to classify atheism as a diviance. Does that worry you? Do you really believe that you're just smarter and you've got it figured out? How arrogant do you think that assertion is?

Note: Please don't answer by singling out Christians, Muslims, or any other religion. I lumped them all together so singling them out would be more blind anger than cognative thought. You can simply group them as "theists."

For the people who think 95% of the worlds population ever thought the world was flat you're showing your ignorance. Believe it or not Columbus wasn't the person that discovered it to be round.... its kind of easy to tell when ships appear to rise up from the horizon. I doubt there was any majority of the people that ever thought the world was flat.

At one point more than 95% of the world's population believed the earth was flat.

Enough said.

No, not at all. The overwhelming evidence is that gods are man-made. However, I also understand why such belief is so popular.

Yes, I do think I've got the god question fairly much figured out. Perhaps it is a bit arrogant, but it is based on a lot of study into the issue.

I don't feel silly about realizing that gods don't exist. I have good company in that regard. Studies show that the more highly educated a person is, the less they fall for these superstitions. It actually makes me sad that so many people still fall for these myths.

Still I understand why these people believe these myths. These myths pull at strong emotional biases. Religion is drilled into people from birth and uses many of our emotional insecurities against us. They don't have the facts behind them, but they don't need to. Humans have been emotional animals long before they've been rational ones.

I'm still optimistic, though. I think humans will get past these various religious superstitions eventually.

If there was a competititon of shouting, the 95% might shout louder than the 5% of population. But, in reality the 5% may create an explosion of atomic bombs that drown out all shoutings! Your reasoning seems not quite convincing.
As a theist, I feel that we theists should stop quarrelling, persecuting and killing each other...to restore a world dominating by the spiritual power of love, peace and prosperity as taught by the Messengers of God, then the 5% of atheists would willingly surrender before God's will. Otherwise, they will use the physical power to dominate the divided theists for some more time!

Why would I feel silly when 95% of the world believes in invisible beings?

Some of us grew up and gave up our imaginary friends and fancies...

Never mind... when you 'doubt' what is historically accurate, you give up any right to speak at all. There was a time when the majority of the world thought the Earth was flat, and also the center of the Universe. Just because you can't imagine it doesn't mean it isn't true.

NEVER!!!

It's really very simple, no proof = no god. See I even have the shirt. It's not a matter of being smarter, I require proof outside of a human-edited, socially-constructed manuscript written when most of the world was illiterate.

And isn't it more arrogant to think that you know what an all-powerful creator of the universe is thinking?

Also, what is diviance? Did you mean deviance?

Since we're discussing psychology (notice that I spelled it correctly) prayer can be considered a form of insanity. Performing the same tasks over and over and expecting a different result.

I believe that truth has nothing to do with majority, it has to do with facts. Theists do not have facts, while atheists do.

Last I'd head, something boarding on 99% of the world's population believed that the Earth was flat, until that was disproven.

It's only a matter of time before the other absurd religious beliefs follow suit.

Edit: Hahahahaha, I love this:
"I doubt there was any majority of the people that ever thought the world was flat."
This is an example of how ignorant the asker is. That's like saying "Everyone knew that when you heated water, it would boil and evaporate. I doubt there was any majority of the people that ever thought that water wasn't composed of oxygen and hydrogen and that said molecules of water spread out and compacted when exposed to heat or cold, respectively."

The evidence was always there that the earth was round, but that doesn't mean that people attributed the evidence to the conclusion of a round earth. Thus, the majority of people believed the earth was flat.

It is the same with religious claims, the evidence against them exists, but theists still choose to live in their imagination. (or, more accurately, the wild imagination of the organization that is controlling their beliefs.)

Please, my highly ignorant(see? I can pull insults to your intelligence, too.) friend, read a history book before you make a bigger fool of yourself. Smear tactics will not work on me, as attempting to uneducatedly make claims of my 'ignorance' only shows your own. Not only is that ignorant, but extremely immature, especially in a debate that you yourself started.

I would say they probably do not feel silly at all. Why should they? there is an old, old expression: the masses are asses.

That said, I believe in god. maybe I'm an asss. I don't know. But I don't feel silly, so why should the atheists?

In as much as I was not around to see how everything came into being (and neither were you),I say, "I don't know ..... YET!" To assume that some god, my less than intellectual ancestors made up, instantaneously farted the universe into being, is absurd. The fact that I seem to be smarter than those who must give meaning to their pitiful lives through identifying themselves with silly delusional god concepts would give me great joy even if I was the only person on Earth that felt that way.

By the nature of God, it is impossible to prove the existence or the lack of existence. I believe this is because it is a man made concept. I believe there is a strong desire to believe in a God. That doesn't mean it is real. The fact that 95% of the world believe in a God, just supports my belief.

Also, there is a valid argument that 95% of the world believed the world was flat at one point. Maybe not in Columbus' time, but at some time it was believed that way. Now obviously the shape of the world is a provable thing, whereas god isn't.

I feel silly that I was believer in such thing.I think the word deviant is out of contents here as no social order was broken and no criminal motives behind atheism. this 5% is not uniform in every country it varies from country to country and also some society does not consider atheism deviance they call it free thinking. In some societies they associate atheism with immorality and therefore, think it is social disorder and I do not think this would apply world wide.
