Why not use other striking styles (eg Karate, Tae Kwon Do). I know some schools are ineffective but some others are great for full contact (eg. Kyokushin).

Also, why are there so few Judo grapplers in MMA?

First the reason why Muay Thai is a powerful base style in MMA is because Thai fighters train Punches, kicks elbow, knees, clinch and throws.

The reason people don't use Judo so much is because Judo was evolved in Brazil to BJJ. BJJ is judo essentially, but it teaches you to use position to get leverage instead of pure strength or momentum. Helio Gracie was train in Judo with his brothers but he was weaker or sick. He devised some modifications to make his Judo more effective for him. The result was BJJ, a martial art utilizing leverage to apply locks and chokes. He was able to defeat hundreds of martial arts master with his new system because he used position to gain leverage. He was once defeated by a Judo master named Kimura. Kimura actually understood how Helio fought and applied the same tactic to lock up a shoulder lock that is now named for him.

Blah blah blah.

Ok, there is one good Judo fighter I know he is Karo Parysian. He uses his Judo to make VERY good throws and takedowns.

There are some really good full contact martial arts schools out there, but remember that they teach a lot of different things.

Kick boxers do conditioning, bag work, pad work, and a lot of sparring. Everything revolves around fighting. Most TKD, Karate, etc. schools do forms and self defense techniques. That takes time and pro fighters would rather use that time doing hard core conditioning or sparring.

There are a lot of guys that have a judo base out there but it is just a base, they supplement with other things.

I hope that answers your question

Thai Kickboxing is ring friendly. It trains skills used for the ring. It lends itself to MMA. They do a lot of sparring, striking, timing, etc.
I think the kickboxing has good training which is why we see a lot of it.
I'm not sure about the judo. I think BJJ is more popular at this time.
Hmm, Judo is an olympic sport so you can compete right up that chain rather than go MMA competitions.
Just a thought.
Peace.

Because thai boxing is specifically a fighting art. Do you really think a TKD fighter has a chance against a Thai fighter in pure striking?

Whilst many of the strikes in Karate and TKD are more devestating that Muay Thai, it tends to be more mobile, and therefore easier transitioning from defence to attack and vice versa. You will probably find that many of them actually use the footwork from Thai or Western boxing but kicks and strikes from other harder martial arts.

my personal opinion is that thai boxing is a very complete system involving head butts, knee,s hands and feet . judo by comparison is not so effective in that it is primarily a throwing ,groundfighting art . mixed martial arts is about using all the tools effectively . its down to the man not the system to create a rounded fighting style
