The guy that im in love with is in Basic Training for the Navy. He left September 16. How long will his training last? I know it has been about 6wks now. Will they let him come home for a visit or will he go straight to Tech. School?

Navy basic training (boot camp) lasts approximately 12 weeks. Depending on the day he arrived - he may have had to wait for everyone else to arrive - The 12 week session involves (roughly) 12-14 divisions of 60 (or so) potential recruits. There is medical check-in and graduation week. Approximately 3 months.
If you are writing back and forth - do it often - he will enjoy the letters (or he should!) and you can find out details about the how far along he is and the prospective date for graduation.
Depending on his school and when it starts, he may or may not be allowed "leave" (or vacation) to come home and visit. I would plan on him not coming home until you hear for certain that he is. Normally there is time afforded around Thanksgiving with the federal holidays and around Christmas/New Years. But again - that depends on the schedule wherever he is sent.
If he doesn't have a tech school, he may be allowed leave to come home before going out to sea.

Starting immediately all Navy recruits are now sent for two to three weeks Army training. This is so they can provide guard for oil rigs, ships and land based operations. Due to the need for manpower and the current shortage all leave between basic and AIT had been canceled. Whether that stay in effect or not is up to Rumsfield. By the way to the person answering and her boyfriend is going to Seal Training, there are four part to their traiing. I would suggest you look up how long that will take. Usually after basic training they are assigned directly to a tech school. They are placed in a PATS (Personnel Awaiting Tech School) status.
In my case my Tech School was on the same base, but in many cases they have to travel... not sure if they have the luxury of going home in between.
I spent 6 weeks in basic, about 4 in PATS and then 16 weeks in Tech School... all of the same base.. boy, was I anxious to get out of there.

no leave is authorized between Boot Camp and reporting to A school. at the most, he may get the weekend immediately following PIR to leave base but he must be back by 2100 every night.
He will not be allowed leave during A school unless it is for the Holiday Standdown, when all the schools shut down for the two weeks between Christmas and New Year's. If he does not have a C school to report to after A school, he will be authorized to take up to 30 days leave(even if he hasn't earned it yet) before he reports to his first Duty Station.

In the army basic training it was 9 wks addition 4 weeks for me because I didn't qualify with a weapon at first. But I had to go straight to AIT before I could go home for leave.

I can't tell you info for the Navy, but my hubby is a Drill Sergeant for BCT in the Army. BCT in the Army lasts for 9 weeks. As soon as they complete that, they go to AIT or "tech school". In the Army, they don't get time off. Usually within 3 days of graduation, they're on their way to AIT. Besides that, they don't really have any leave days saved up to have time off. However, the day prior and day of BCT graduation, they're given a pass to spend time with their family and friends that come to see them.

basic is eight weeks, when he takes his first leave depends on the date his tech school starts, if it is just a day or two and nearby then he probably won't be able to come home. If he has a week or longer before it starts and has to travel to a new base anyway then he might be able to.

people that are done basic but not A-school, AIT or whatever basic technical school they are assigned to are considered Initial Entry Trainees, because they are not qualified for their jobs yet. they will slowly get leave, and passes to them but for IETs going home for extended amount of time more than a weekend than its going to be hard. if you live like more than 6 hours drive from where they are going to do their A-school, than they would have to fly home for a 3/4 day weekend, or 4 hours on a regular weekend, they have to drive, and they have to put in paperwork before hand, maybe you would have to go to him on weekends/regular and long ones if he cant come home

well i have my ex boy friend, step brother and my dad,who was in basic trainning for the amy. i think the leangh on the tranning is the same. if it is he would be able to choose if he wanted to come home or if he wanted to go on tech tranning. basic tranning and tech tranning are nine weeks each. but hang in there. i kind of know how it feels.
