You cannot target weight loss.
Doing lots of situps or crunches will help firm up your abdominal muscles, but will not do a lot to burn fat.
Increase your cardio, add walking or jogging to your schedule. It does not have to be a lot, and does not have to be miles and miles.
30 minutes a day, 4 or 5 times a week will make a difference.
Also, try to eat healthy. Avoid fad diets like low carb stuff.
Increase your activity, lower your caloric intake, and eat healthy.
You will be amazed at what it can do for you.

Really, that is the only way that you will get fitter and healthier.
But it is slow. It will take a couple of months to show. But it helps give you a lifetime of good habits.

Hi there the way to get a flatter tummy is to eat a well balanced diet and keep active. just watch the portion size and cut down on alcohol.Regular exercise uses up extra calories to help control your weight. if you are just looking to tone up your stomach then its probably best to just do some exercises and not diet. if you REALLY need to go a diet best to fill up on carbs fruit veg and have two portions of protein and two portions of calcium each day. Carbs are good for you and is a great energy source eat wholegrain carbs and feel fuller for longer.
Starchy foods are also the main source of a range of important nutrients, such as fibre, calcium, iron and B vitamins. As a rule, starchy foods should make up a third of the food that we eat each day.

Don't overdo it if you lose too much weight too quick it will come back;slow and steady is better just work out, keep hydrated and eat enough about 1500 calories for a diet compared to 2000 a day normally. Good luck and I will you every success!!!

Walking 30 minutes at 3mph uses up 99 kcal
Cycling steadily for 20 minutes uses up 100 kcal
Swimming for 20 minutes uses up 100 kcal

Controlling the amount of alcohol you drink is important for avoiding serious health problems. It can also help control your weight (alcohol is very high in calories) and prevent dehydration.

Some people think that starchy foods are fattening, but they contain less than half the calories of fat. It's the added fats that are served or cooked with carbs that result in extra calories. Low-carb diets are a risky way to lose weight, since they involve eating more fats (with increased risk of heart disease) and rob your body of vital nutrients.

Hi Kat, join the club, after the summer when Ive been wearing elasticated top shorts I put some trousers on and horrified to find the waist was too small. Ive cut down on sugar and cut out the chocolates and started exercises. Doing a modified form of sit-up or crunchies, where the knees are kept bent. I started with 3 sets of 5 and can now manage 3 sets of 30 (Im in my 60's) after one month Im pleased with the results of my efforts and wish you the same success. Good luck

If you want to reduce belly fat, the only way is by doing aerobic exercises. During activities like swimming, rowing and walking, enough oxygen is supplied to the body to burn fat. Fat is burned from all over the body, including the stomach. If aerobic exercises are done regularly over a period of time, you will gradually lose weight. The healthiest way to prevent a fat stomach is by ensuring that your weight is normal for your height. Ensure that the energy provided by the food you eat matches the energy you burn performing your daily activities. Losing fat around the stomach takes time. Skipping, and a low fat, low sugar diet. Do about 200+ a day. My sister did it for like 700 a day, 350 morning and evening. She lost weight and got a flat tummy fast as hell.

I was thinish but had a little belly i just couldnt get rid of! so i started taking this MAGIC pill called CHARGE. It is a fat loss/ appitite suppressant/ caffene pill, so f***ing amazing! you lose the fat you have, you dont feel sick so you can eat a healthy amount but not overeat or binge and it give you the extra energy you need for those tummy flattening sit ups!
take 2 charge with breakfast and lunch and to 25 situps twice a day and you will be perfect in 30 days

best wishes

P.S. I dont believe in hurting yourself to be skinny, i believe in working hard to be healthy. Be careful, be healthy, take care of yourself.

This is a common question. Here are some thoughts on abs from my 360 Blog of September 10.

There is no site specific way of losing fat... the old myth about working your abs to burn belly fat isn't true. To get rid of love handles, you need to lose overall fat. That happens with exercise and watching your diet. More on that below.

The most effective way to lose fat is aerobic exercise in the "moderate" fat-burning range, ideally first thing in the morning before you eat. When you wake your body is ready to burn fat and your levels of growth hormone are highest at that time. Later in the day it can take up to 30 minutes just to put your body into a fat-burning mode.

Another overlooked way to burn fat is by lifting weights. Skeletal muscle has very high caloric needs... almost twice that of adipose (fat) tissue. Put on a little muscle and you will burn calories all day even at rest. Be aware that skeletal muscle weighs more, so with this approach you may see your weight increasing while your body fat is melting away. Not realizing this often stresses folks who think they should be losing weight as a measure of fitness. Forget the scale, look in the mirror and you will be happy.

To lose a pound of fat, you need to eliminate about 3500 calories. You can do this by burning more with exercise or by modifying your diet to reduce intake. If you do a Google search on say, "swimming calories" you will quickly find a website with tables of calories burned for a given exercise. You can use such lists to estimate how many calories you are burning up with your routine.

For diet, keep a diary for a couple of weeks counting calories, grams of protein, and grams of fat intake. It is easy with online sources of nutritional information (type the name of the food and calories into the Google search engine) and packaging labels. That will let you quickly figure out where the fat is coming from in your diet.

Fat gives you 9 calories per gram. So take the number of grams of fat, multiply by 9, then calculate what percentage the fat calories are of your total daily calories. Restricting the calories from fat to about 20% of your total intake is ideal for a maintenance diet... that isn't overly restrictive. Of note, you need some fat in your diet. For instance, the body uses fat to produce hormones. Once you have a picture of how to modify your diet, you can drop the diary and just go back to it occasionally if you are wanting to tweek things further.

There is a subset of questions that goes further and asks about "How to get a six-pack?" The answer is the same. Six-packs are 20% abdominal exercise and 80% diet. There is one caveat... abdominal muscles will form in the position that you work them, so be certain to pull them tightly toward your spine while doing crunches, etc. Also, during most lifting, the "core is active" which means that you should be stabilizing with contracted abs then too. Fail to do this and the abs will form, but bulging outward and the result is not attractive.

If you are trying to build muscle as a way to lose fat, then you may need to increase total calories and specifically your protein intake. I target about 0.8 g of protein per pound of body weight each day when actively building. That is far more protein than most people need in their diets.

After the birth of my 4th child I asked my doc the same thing he told me to do reverse crunches. This is where you lay on the floor in a regular crunch position, and instead of sqeezing up, he said suck in your gut and push down to the floor, it did work for me. Good luck!

everyones saying situps crunches etc....all good but it won't burn fat. if you keep up those crunches whilst doing cardio (swimming, running, walking, rowing etc) your stomach will be flat. if you want no definition just do cardio and don't bother with the situps. if you want both, cardio and situps the way to go. eat well too. good luck!
