Jew, Christian, Islam, Buddhist, Hindu, atheist/non-believer, or whatever you prefer...

And, why would you make that choice?

This is intended for those who are regulars or have read enough questions and answers to have a valid opinion. But, anyone can answer.

Try to imagine you had no prior religious instruction and the only thing you knew was what you read on Y!A's.

Thanks.

abdulazis, I have never seen the quran posted on Y!A's in sufficient length to call it "amazing."

If you do not edit your answer, I will mark it a "bad answer" because it is unresponsive to the question I asked.

Unknown, you appear to be correct.

I find it very hard to believe anyone who knew nothing of a religion would choose "Deist" based on what he read on Y!A's.

I have over 7,000 answers and have rarely seen the word deist used or defined.

I would walk away from the whole mess in disgust.

I'd then spend a lot on time in the library.

As 'iamacatholic' has the most points, and holds the present no.1 position for 'Best Answers' on Y!A's. Most people obviously think the answers from the Catholic (or at least the Christian) point of view have been the best and most convincing.

I have certainly not been impressed with the purported logic, reason and so-called 'science' which I have seen from the atheists.

The apologists for the Islamic religion have so much to defend they have an impossible task.

There is much less from the other beliefs, but that which I have seen would not convince me.

The Christians make me nervous. The Pagans on here are all mostly teenagers. I've heard a couple of pretty nice statements from some Buddhists and some Muslims, a couple of mean ones from Muslims, but not too bad. If I were only getting my religious learnings from what I saw on Yahoo Answers, I'd probably choose to be an atheist, or at least agnostic. Everyone from whatever religion they belong to seems to genuinely love their beliefs, so maybe I'd be an agnostic. There are nice people and mean people from all religions, and some of the religions have more people than others. I think if I had no prior religious expirience, I would come away just as confused as ever.

Assuming I was totally unaware of what religion was, I think I'd be completely perplexed about which was most convincing. Each one claims to be the only way to live. Assuming equality of writing skills between answerers, each one also presents strong arguments against the beliefs of others.

The claims that ordered life evolved out of chaos makes no sense to me at all; nor does it make sense that, if there is a Creator, that we would not have been given information about Him/Her/It (i.e. religion). Therefore, all I can say with certainty is that I would not choose atheism or agnosticism.

Peace.

Jainism, or Jain Dharma makes the most sense to me...i mean im athiest but they teach non violence and self control and I think the world would be a much much better place if we practiced that stuff more often, instead of killing people and being self righteous like christians, jews, muslims ect. And for anyone who checks out the wikipedia site about them...the swastica they have has nothing to do with being a nazi..so please don't be stupid

People who accept no religions have no standards for valuating things. Each one will be convinced by anything suitable to his taste or his level of knowledge.
People believing in various religions may have different standards, but at least they have one firm foundation to make their choice: they choose the things which are in conformity to the love and the knowledge of the One True God. They differ, but all are on a very high level of values.

TRUE CHRISTIANS, & not just Christians, Some so called Christains, that don't know what they are talking about puts a bad taste in people's mouth, & that in turn causes people to think all Christian is like that. So my answer is not Christians, BUT TRUE CHRISTIANS,. If I profess to be a Christain & do not live the life before the people, I am setting a bad exampleship. Sometimes, just your life will bare wittness that you are a Christain. You need not have to say one thing, Especailly if your life don't measure up to it. Our life can be more of a testimony than talking to someone, after serving God for over 36 yrs. You learn a lot. But I am still learning. I have always said, if my life is not what the bible says it should be, something is wrong, We can not make the bible line up with our lives, But we have to line up OUR LIVES WITH THE BIBLE. So my answer, will BE TRUE CHRISTANITY.

From what I have gotten off Y!A, I wouldn't touch any of them with a ten foot pole. The atheists and Christians have made total asses out of themselves. The Muslims have not mounted a convincing campaign. The Wiccans are too damn tolerant and don't preach their beliefs nearly enough for me to feel I need to convert. Everyone else is too quiet.

I will have to stick with my atheist beliefs by default, regardless of what image the group has cultivated here.

Try as I might, I can't have any other opinion but my own. So, I stand by my beliefs hands down. Since they are what I believe, obviously they make the most sense to me. I'm a Deist.

No need to assume that a person has no religion. Even if he has one, it is enough if he has clarity about it, IRRESPECTIVE OF WHAT IT PREACHES (through anybody !).
Prior religious instruction need not necessarily cloud our rational thinking.
Atheists who are not open minded too are just as bad as blind believers !
Basic truth, the fundamental truth, that is relevant to existence, our being, is not dependent on any religion, or atheist !
Either we reach the truth, or we keep going round and round in circles, in the name of religion, atheism or anything !
So, none of these claims might really work.
The purpose of religion has to be to assist a person to deepen his perception level, recognising the 'human' capability of self-awareness, and enabling experience of deeper levels of consciousness, newer dimensions of awareness !

I think the answer would depend on "need," "gender," and the individual's "sense" that there is something greater than self.

1) No felt sense of something greater = atheism or non believer.

2) Need as it pertains to gender:

a) Male = patriarchal monotheism; and

b) Female = Hinduism or some form of Paganism like Wicca.
