Doctor for a check-up.
Drink more more water not less.
Change your bedsheets more, and shower regularly.
Retirement does often mean relaxing too much.

The idea is to rule out the prostrate, by going to the doctor.
Most probably though, you have picked up a urinary tract infection. Flush the system by drinking more water, and make sure you keep clean, including clothes and bedding.
Getting older does have certain occurrences, but if it is just age, better to learn to manage it than medicate yourself.

edit.
I have picked up a couple of infections from kipping on peoples couches for a few days in the same clothes, or going camping.
For 2/3 days everynight after, I was urinating at a rate of every half hour for most of the night, no pain or stinging. Uncircumcised, so I need to keep clean. Once I had got back and showered and drank normal amounts (6/8 glasses) it went away.
It's like the tingling you get when you want to go, is exactly mimicked by by infection, sort of slight itching inside, which you don't notice.

The first thing to do is stop drinking fluids after 8pm. Give it a couple of weeks and if your symptoms haven't improved, then see your GP. It's unlikely to be an infection (as someone suggested it could be) as you would have other symptoms such as burning/stinging. After two weeks of trying to reduce your fluid intake before bed, and if there's no improvement, ask yourself the following two questions:

1. Is there any hesitancy when you try to pass water? By this I mean do you feel the need to go then does it take a while to start?

2. Is the flow as good as it used to be? Is there dribbling towards the end of the stream?

If the answer to either or both of the above questions is yes, you more than likely have an enlarged prostate. See your GP who will do a simple examination to confirm this. Most prostate problems are benign, and a quick blood test will confirm this without the need for more invasive investigations.

I dont think taking tablets is the right answer, if you dont want to talk to your doctor, maybe you could telephone the nurse in the surgery and ask for some advice. If this is just a recent thing then maybe you should just get a check-up. Have you tried not drinking any fluids after a certain time? Maybe after 6 or 7pm, might help.

Ive got the same problem, Ive had all the tests and there is nothing wrong they can find so I'm now doing pelvic floor exercises (I didn't realise men had pelvic floors I thought it was a woman thing) and they seem to be helping a little though I still have to a couple of times, which is much better than five or six.

I am 26 and need to go to the toilet in the night. Its just a slight weakness of the bladder. Get a grip and just go when you need to? Its hardly a medical problem!

If you have ruled out prostate problem the try cutting down fluid intake in the hours before you go to bed.

Maybe think about going to your GP. You may have the bigginings of something like enlarged prostate which can be dealt with simply if caught early.

You should see your doctor because you may have prostate problems. They will give you a blood test to measure the level in your prostate.

You probably know this but go get your prostate checked out by the doctor.

I know its embarrasing but your health takes precedence over all other factors.
