First of all you need to be watching your dog if you give him rawhide so he wont digest it. I have been giving my dog dental treats for the past 10 months from companiondental and I cant believe the way his teeth & breath look & smell amazing. Big retalors ie: petsmart etc. provide main stream main products but companiondental.com sells one of the best products I have found out there. They are all natural & ship to your door monthly. They also have a fibrous product that works great. Check it out.

NO! Not healthy at all for animals to have bones. The bones splinter and will rupture your animals stomach lining. It will rip and tear the animals insides all up! One hint STOP THAT!
Your only hurting him. I know not intentionally you might think it's a good treat but it really is only hurting the doggy. Be careful! Their insides are just as gentle as ours! Think what would happen to you if you ate a bone all splintered up. Results are not good. Buy doggy treats that they like. That is always a winner. No raw hides or bones are good for an animal. I don't even know why people make them and market them.
Probably just not thinking! They are not very bright. Make sure other people won't feed your animals any bones or raw hide either! They can't digest them properly!

NNNNOOOOOO! IT'S NOT OKAY FOR ANIMALS TO HAVE ANY TYPE OF BONES OR RAW HIDE PEOPLE SO STOP SAYING THAT! WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHI* SOME BONES OUT OF YOUR BUTT?

A dog should have a large marrow bone uncooked. Cooked bones can cause an impaction in the dogs colon, also small bones can cause a choke, dogs can die if they choke on a bone. Large bones even for small dogs is the safest way to allow this very important dietry fibre for a dog to consume. Never give cooked chop bones or chicken bones to dogs, as they splinter and can pierce the intestines or rupture the throat.

I personally no longer give my Golden bones. I used to give them to her as a special treat (I would buy the knuckle bones from Pet smart). I no longer do this because she got a piece of bone stuck in her stomach. She was throwing up all night, so I took her to the vet in the morning. She had to be on an IV because she was dehydrated and they were going to do surgery to remove the piece of bone. Luckily they waited until the next day to do the surgery and the piece of bone passed on its own overnight. She had to stay on the IV for 3 days and have many x-rays. The vet bill was almost $1000. (which I would pay any amount of money for my baby girl) So, needless to say I no longer give her any type of bones.

Make sure he's chewing it into very small pieces. If he swallows a large chunk it can block his intestine and lead to surgery. If you find out he has swallowed a piece that may be too big to digest take him outside and give him some peroxide 1/2 cup or so. He won't like it and it will make him vomit to get the chunk out but it's much better than a dying dog. You can also use peroxide if he were to eat poison or something else that will harm him. Most dogs chew them up with out a problem though. Good luck with your dog

As long as it's made for that purpose (the rawhide bones you get from a pet store) it's fine. Just keep in mind that it makes some dogs vomit. My brother has two dogs (a beagle and a border collie/lab mix)....they both hack up phlegm and pieces of the bone if they get too much stuck in their throats.

Other than that, it's not harmful.

its fine as long as its not a bird bone. (chicken, turkey, duck; goose, ect) they break the bone to get the marrow which is what they are really trying to get at when they are chewing the bone. you can really get the marrow off of the bone with out some tools and considering they only have their teeth they cheww the bone into peices and then chew the peices ubtil they are soft and when they are soft they eat the whole thing

Raw-hide bones are made for that. We've had some that made ours get sick, but I think it was just the brand. Don't give him chicken bones, though--they will splinter and can cause serious injury.

raw hide bones are good for dog's teeth.....and so are regular bones....well, anything but fowl bones. Like chicken, hen, etc...those tend to splinter and could easily get stuck in their throat.
