I have a 1 year old male pitbull that I have spoiled since 4 weeks old. He is so use to going every where with me that when I leave him alone for a minute he cry's and screams like someone is torturing him! I feel odd. My neighbors thought I was hurting my dog and even called the cops on me. When the cops came to my house I showed them my dog. They said the neighbors thought I might be torturing my dog. They said, "there is nothing at all wrong with this dog. Why would the neighbors call us for your dog? He is healthy. Then I told to the cops that every time I leave my dog alone for a minute he howls and cry's with a very high pitch cry! I walked outside with the officer's to show them and walked to my drive-way with the cops and they started laughing when my dog started crying and howling real loudly. I felt soooo embarrased and turned red in the face! They said,"That dog must really love you to cry like that!" How can I stop him from crying? He never chews anything up. Can U help?

He has separation anxiety. It is a behavioural issue but it can be train to become a good dog. It requires a lot of consistency and patience but trust me, it will work. If not, post here again :)

First, buy puppy gate/children's gate and decide where you want to keep him when you are out or a dog playpen is good too.Set the gates or playen up when you are at home so he does not associate the gates with you going out. Stay in the are with him but do not fuss him up. Break off eye contact. Get a book, stand there and read but do not pet him, just be quiet and let him calm down. Give a treat when he calms down but no fussing him up. Do this for 10 mins for a few times for about 2-3 days. Next, stay outside the play area. Again, be quiet and no fussing him up till he stops whining/calms down. Give a treat/ praise him gently. Then when you see him improving, gradually go to another room where he can't see you first for 5 minutes and gradually to 30 minutes. DO NOT go back to fuss him up when he cries-this is IMPORTANT!! Wait till he stops.I know its hard but he will stop. Only go and see him when he stops crying and you may praise him. Gradually build to going out for 1-2 mins, then 5 mins then to 1.5 hours..once he reached that timing, he can be left alone several hours.

Buy some toys and put them in there but DO NOT play with him 20 minutes before you go out. Just put them there quietly and let him play with them. Try toys that works his mind like Kong toy with treats and Buster Cubes filled with treats.

Sounds like separation anxiety. My very neurotic border collie was the same way. It'll take a little time but it's well worth it....

Invest in a wire kennel. Put the kennel in a room that your pup (hey, even old dogs like to feel young sometimes!) spends a lot of time in. Get him use to the kennel with you around but don't ever go into it. Then, place your pup in the kennel with a shirt or something else with your scent. Close the door and do some things around the room. Start at 15 minute intervals several times a day until he starts getting comfortable with the kenneling idea.

Once he starts to realize that the kennel's a safe haven for him, then start leaving him in there and leave the room. Keep talking to him but move about the house. Once he calms down to that, then start being quiet... only allowing him to hear your actions. Then graduate to going outside, etc.

Good luck!

Listen I have a Pit bull as well he did the same thing. The reason why is because they are use to being the center of attention and or scared to be alone because he is use to being with you, in my case it was the second one. (so the vet said.) What they told me to do is to keep music on while I was them and then leave it on while I was gone. That for me didn't work but what worked was leaving the TV while I was gone. I guess they just want to see something move or talk so you can try that and maybe that will work for you too. Best of Luck.

It seems like you have to break the mould really... First of all, make sure that you tell your neighbours what you are going to do and arrange a time when they will be out for a long time. Then, if you get a cage, and put him in it (I'm saying this because he might get REAL angry), and leave him there for hours, maybe go shopping go to the cinema, anything, and he will get fed up of crying, and the cage will stop him from trying to escape or breaking anything. Do this weekly and you're pitbull will soon realise that you go out and leave him alone sometimes.

I hope you work things out

oh gosh my little puppy which we have two thanks to hubby lol he is my baby he just cries when I leave the room he will follow me lol. I try to get up while he is asleep so I can do some things and here he comes right beside me lol.
I put him on the chain outside and if I walk in the door he stand by the door outside and cries even if he has to go potty he wont go pee unless Im right out there with him.

I think it's just the age to be honest they are still pups even at one year and they will grow out of it .

Tomorrow is my first trip leaving him in the house I still have to put him in his little cage though when I leave because he isnt quite housebroken yet and I have three cats and he still likes to chase them so for my cat's safety and piece of mind to I will cage him and I know he isnt going to be h appy tomorrow when I leave.

Why dont you try just to leave walk outside you already know hhe will cry just wait for about 5 min or so and see if he calms down just like you do with a newborn let them cry and he will settle down .

With time, he will notice hes putting you in trouble, and he'l stop, to prove he loves you back.

What if you try tip toeing when leaving him with his most favourite game???? might work either way

he's suffering from separation anxiety. Get him a towel or a soft toy ... if that doesn't work, he needs another dog to keep him company.
