I have read lots of BS information on here. It never carried a 105mm or any other howitzer. The ACH-47 carried a 40mm grenade launcher, 2x 7.62 mm Mini guns, and 2x 2.75'' Rocket pods. This was in vietnam. The Chinook is not slow. It has a higher operational cruise speed than any military helicopter in the world. Although it is a very sexy helicopter, sadly we need to let the Apache and Kiowa Pilots earn their flight pay so they get to shoot guns. The Chinook is a heavy Assault Platform desinged for troops and cargo. it is only defensively armed, although very well defensively armed, in case any low-life is thinking about taking a shot at it, it will ruin your day.

I'm not sure how you mean reduced fire power capabilities? This chopper can pack a massive amount of weapons if it wants to any time the command should wish it. the CH-47 in vietnam carried a 105mm howitzer and a variety of rockets and gatling guns when used as a gunship. However it was found that the CH-47 was vulnerable to ground fire due to it's size. The CH-47 is still occasionally used in the gunship role but is primarily used as a cargo mover. This is because there are attack helos like the cobra and apache that can do the job better than the CH-47.

The chinook is a transport helicopter. They're usually armed with countermeasures to defeat anti-air missiles, and a machine gunner in the rear. They also happen to be the fastest helicopter in the US army. They're very complex, requiring almost a complete teardown and rebuild to transport them to a different part of the world. They're also an essential, competent, part of the US Army team, providing support all over the world.

The C in CH-47 means that it is a cargo helicopter but since it has a huge lift capability during Vietnam they were used as gunships and mounted with miniguns that used ridiculous amounts of ammo and required the power of the 47 to lift. A huey simply couldn't have lifted the weight of the ammo.

do you know how it looks? is like a fat banana with 2 cooling fans on top. the helo is heavy and slow, can you imagine this thing attacking something? maybe only something who doesn't respond back. it was designed for transportation purposes only: troups or cargo, it may be equipped with machine-guns, operated from the opened doors, but that it obviously has a reduced firepower capability if we compare with an Uh60, the Black Hawk, or Ah64, the Appache. It can be used for transporting troups behind the enemy lines, to different drop zones, to recover and save the same troups, to drop aids, food, ammo, equipment, to search and rescue, as fire-fighter, on medical evacuation, as mobile command post, as mobile radar site, as mobile comm relay, as air-mail service but this is what it does: it transports not attacks. happy with the answer? for more details look for on the net, or join the air force!! :) just kidding...

Greetings. a M60 machinegun. it extremely is a huge complicated American reproduction of the German MG-40 two or as that's conventional now in Europe MG-a million, fastened on a flex mount. being phased out yet new alternative no longer yet invented or introduced if that's been.

"Reduced firepower capabilities"??? It never had any!
The Chinook has never been a gunship -- it's a cargo chopper, desigend for hauling heavy loads, not for getting in firefights.
