Click Start then Run and type cmd and press enter.
Type chkdsk /r to check your disk for errors.
You might need to restart to complete the disk check.

If you've experienced file problems in System 32, you might have other damaged or missing files.. Run a system files check. You'll need your XP install disk.

Click start > run > type in "sfc /scannow" > OK (no quotes and note the space between sfc and /scannow.) The scan could take an hour or more. If damaged or missing files are found you'll be prompted to insert the install disk.

The only thing i can think of is sometimes when you have a USB falsh drive hooked up to your computer this happens..so check and see if you a USB drive hooked up or not....if not then you can always format your computer by using the Windows XP Re-installtion CD. You can also try System Restore once your computers on.

Try cleaning up your comp. Do a disk cleaning for your temp files, well, for all your drives. Get rid of unnecessary files and stop downloading everything. Also try defragmenting.
