If someone gave a child a cigarette that would be shocking, yet it seems to be perfectly acceptable to give them a Big Mac as their main meal. Should there be warning labels on the packaging just like they have on a packet of ciggies?

The odd meal from these places will not do you any harm the problem is people only feed themselves and family on this 'type' of food and that is a problem.
It is almost as bad to only eat salad as you would lack vital vitamins and proteins that are an essential part of diet. That is why some vegetarians have problems with things like skeletal disease later in life.

Whereas smoking a cigarette will deposit a small amount of tar on your lungs amongst other things. This will stay there possibly for ever. The nicotine is highly toxic and there are many other chemicals that are not brought to the public attention.

There is no comparison between the two.

NO, and it is ridiculous to even suggest such a thing. We have a Food Pyramid that is taught from about 3 grade on and Health classes taught in high school. Not to mention common sense. It doesnt' take a warning label to warn people away from fried, high fat, high caloric food. Cant' compare the too items. Should peanuts come with a warning label b/c there is an epidemic of allergies recently or how about shellfish having one...If you buy this and you have an allergy it might kill you. Give me a break.
Lets get back to using our common sense and stop this nonsense about blaming the gov't or restuarants or tv for the choices we make.

We live in the U.S. the greatest country in the world. We have many freedoms that others don't. I find it shocking that Americans more and more seem to want to restrict some of our freedoms. There's talk about portion control. Do we honestly want the goverment telling us what we can eat and how much of it. Hell no!!! By now everyone should know Mc Donalds is not good for you, neither are most of the fast food chains. People need to take responsibility for there own actions. If they're over weight it's there own fault. We are tought in grade school what foods are good for us and that our bodies need exercise. We who use this knowlege and maintain a healthy lifestyle should not be penalized for those who cannot exercise any control. If people don't like the freedoms that we have in the U.S., then they are in the wrong country.

People should use their common sense. Now a days the authorities are expected to wipe the noses and bums of the lazy people. Everyone knows that it is not healthy and it is up to the parents to teach their kids proper eating habits. They can only learn it from them. So if they are none the wiser it is the parents fault not the fast food chain.

No. People/parents have to take a little responsibility for themselves. It's not a restaurants fault if someone is stupid enough to eat huge burgers and chips everyday.

Where would it end? Should my local Tescos confiscate my food if I buy one too many pizzas just in case some fatty who just had a heart attack is able to sue them?

Not having a go at you, it's a good question... just at people's common sense x

But where would it end? Danger signs at zebra crossings?

Isn't it bad enough that a packet of peanuts not only says not suitable for nut alergy sufferers but also says caution : contains nuts!?

Even if BK and McD's had warnings, it wouldn't stop adults from feeding it to their kids!

no, parents need to make the right choices when giving their children food to eat. they already know that eating too much junk food can have a negative affect on your body so dont blame the food industry for making kids and adults overweight.

A big mac is a nutritious balanced meal; meat, bread and vegetables. What more do you want for a couple of quid?
