My question is that I would like to know if its ok to be friends with someone who is not of the same faith as you are? because I had this one friend who was a catholic and then they became a Christian and now everytime they go to meet someone they can't be friends with them because they are from another faith. I mean they can be friends but just not close friends with you if you are not the same faith as they are. Does anyone who is a Catholic find that odd or is it ok to be friends with them? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Yes, it is okay for a Catholic to be friends with a Protestant.

Almost all Catholics have non-Catholic friends. Some Catholics even marry non-Catholics.

It sounds like your friend may have joined a fringe Christian denomination that does not allow contact with people outside that group. This is not Catholic teaching.

With love in Christ.

Um... I think its very odd! Both the catholic and protestant faith teach their followers to love everybody and therefore there shouldn't be a bar on who you can be friends with. It just means there are certain things you can't relate to that person about.

Besides, catholics and protestants are both Christian and share the same God and many similar doctrines! It might be harded for a Christian to be friends with a Satanist or Atheist, I would have thought!

You have a friend who was a Catholic and then they became a Christian???

All Catholics are Christians. Not all Christians are Catholic. You cannot be a Catholic and then become a Christian.

And people can be friends, even good friends, with anyone they choose here in the USA. It's a free country.

Bad doctrines are not banned from either church. You can tell who the lifelong learners are and who has a closed mind.

FAQ: Do Swedenborgians believe in the Holy Trinity?

"The idea of God, with all conception of Him, having been thus rent asunder, it is my purpose to treat, in their order, of God the Creator, of the Lord the Redeemer, and of the Holy Spirit the Operator, and lastly of the Divine trinity, to the end that what has been rent asunder may be again made whole; which is done when the reason of man is convinced by the Word and by light therefrom that there is a Divine trinity, and that the trinity is in the Lord God the Savior Jesus Christ, like the soul, the body, and what goes forth from these, in man; and that thus this article in the Athanasian Creed is true:"

"In Christ God and man, or the Divine and the Human, are not two, but are in one person; and as the rational soul and the flesh are one man, so God and man are one Christ." -- True Christian Religion n.4[3]:

As a Protestant, I've got several Catholic friends. We differ on theological points, but otherwise that's just a side issue to our friendship.
