My credit rating has a few black marks on it...:(

I've had good credit all my life but since moving to Thailand, some bills I didn't know I had went to collections.

My credit card is already maxed out and I need more credit.

However, I'm afraid that if I ask for a limit increase they might see the black mark on my record and cancel the card...

That would leave me stranded with no credit card, and a debt to pay off also..

Any suggestions or opinions on this?

The credit card company did offer me a credit limit both on the phone and on the website.

Could it be that they are already aware of that small mark but turn a blind eye to it since I have been a customer since 1994 and never missed a payment?

Could it be that they are enjoying the $170 a month interest?

Your card won't be cancelled - but I doubt the limit will be changed either.

I dont know about Thailand, but in America they cant cancel an account you already have...you've got a balance and they cant close it with a balance.

Also, if you've never missed a payment they LOVE that and might give you more credit regardless of your scores.

You REALLY sound like you're going to get yourself into trouble here- - if you need more credit it means you are living beyond your means. you need to get everything under control and work with what you have. . . if you have trouble now how is adding another bill going to help you?? Are you wanting to a make a purchase? Save the cash!

I have moved from the UK to Thailand, and if you're in Thailand legally (with a work permit and six months bank account transactions) then you can apply for a credit card here. Your past life elsewhere will not be taken into account. Without either a work permit or six months worth of history you're unlikely to get credit of any kind here.
I would also doubt that, having moved to Thailand, you'll be able to legally get any kind of credit in your home country. I assume you would have to state your home address as being in your home country, which technically it isn't. I also think it's unlikely you will get an increase from your home-based company whilst living in Thailand, although I stand to be corrected on that. Good luck whatever you decide.

Why would you increase your credit limit if you have black marks already? Your collections is just an excuse, because you should know what bills you have regardless if you move. Credit cards get you in a lot of trouble if you don't pay them. Just work on paying the one you have. You don't need the headaches.

Here is some advice:
1. Sounds like you are max'd out now so don't get a new credit line.
2. Use http://www.mycreditadvise.com to learn how to repair your credit rating, debt and finance.
Good Luck.
