Hello.......... You would have to believe that the mentally ill person chooses the type of attention that they get. Would you, as a rational human being,[ as you say the ill person is] want your life to be filled with countless visits to the psychiatrist's office, be put under constant scrutiny, be ridiculed , be linked to normalcy only through the medicines you take, subject yourself to the social stigma associated with mental illness, be unable maintain or form new relationships, hold a decent job or even have a child? These are only a few of the circumstances which often come about in the life of a person diagnosed with a mental illness. Now tell me if you believe they are faking it. Imagine if it were you and someone called you "crazy" or " psycho" I would be willing to bet that there are several people who you know personally who have been diagnosed, are taking medication, and have perfectly decent lives. They choose to keep this information to themselves, fearing the reactions from folks who choose to believe that it is just a ploy to gain attention or sympathy. Do yourself a favor and be a little more open minded. I'm not trying to be judgemental, but using the word "crazy" Is totally inappropriate when talking about mental illness. I hope I have answered your question.......

Well, that depends. Mental illness is, for the most part, caused by a imbalance in brain chemicals. Or it can be caused by head injuries. The things that a mentally ill person sees, hears, and feels are very real to them. It's almost as if they live in a different world than we do. I suffer from a mild form of depression and have anxiety attacks. When I have an anxiety attack, it's VERY real to me and no I don't do it to get attention. I also don't label myself (or anyone else suffering from mental illness) as "crazy".
I lead a perfectly normal life, being married with 3 children. Lets put it this way, you would have to be in their shoes to understand.

I hope your question is serious and not an attempt at being funny.
Mental illness is a disease, not unlike a cancerous brain tumor that would force an otherwise healthy person to be unable to do certain things.
I use that analogy to point out how we have no problem have empathy for and even caring for someone with an illness in other areas. Mental illness is no different than that.
I've seen that with proper diagnosis and treatment (usually getting that person on the right combination of medications), a person with mental illness can experience grerat improvement. Depending on the severity and progression of the disease, they may lead perfectly normal lives -- right on to being unbale to properly function in society.
They deserve care and concern as much as any heart or cancer patient.

No they are not attention seeking but maybe are in need of attention. Going crazy or as i like to call it suffering from a mental health problem is like a physical problem. You wouldnt ignore a broken leg so why ignore it if you feel down or hear voices. Mental health problems can be caused by many factors. One of the main causes i find is a bad or abusive child hood, people who suffer horrific up brinigings it unfortunatly can effect them in adult hood. There not crazy there just like you and me they are people and for what ever reason they need help.
Ive known alot of mentally ill people and they truly are lovely people. Hope this answeres your question.

Some are acting that way to get attention. And some are truly crazy. You really cannot generalize about an entire population.

Do you get up and pee in the morning or are you just faking it? That's what that question sounded like.
Yes people are truly mentally ill and I am one of them. I am Bipolar and have to take a regimen of drugs everyday so that I don't get sick again.
You can't put an act on and receive Social Security for it because they put you through to many tests like seeing their own Psychiatrist or Therapist, gathering information from your own doctor and going through every little step that they can to keep you from being on Social Security.
We are NOT CRAZY, we are Mentally Ill, and no we do not just act just to get attention. I wish that you could walk in my shoes for one day and then maybe you would understand. I feel that you owe a lot of us an apology for asking a question like that! So my question remains do you really have to pee or are you faking it?????

there are some people who just act like they are having problems and guess what some people are not faking but they are not crazy they have problems that they are wanting to deal with but those who fake this usually do so they can get disablity payments or to get medications for addictions and they are the ones who get caught most of the time and those of us who are mental ill would like to be able to function as those who fake their illiness just to get attention and i t is not fair andi think they should be in major trouble with the law and i would love to see that happen someday

depends on the type and severity of the illness
some mentaly ill people have a brain issue such as a chemical imbalance or even part of their brain didnt develope correctly in the womb or in adolesence(less likley) and this caused their brain to become confused itself and not trigger certain feelings or actions because it cant. sociopathy is ususaly a chemical imbalance that causes you to not differ right from wrong because all actions feel the same to you so you cant learn right from wrong. other things have their own special circumstances.....and i hope you were lookin for a real answer cuz thats not a funny question to ask jokingly about
