Yes, as long as you are allowed to have a dog in your building then you should have no problem. Just remember, that some breeds need more exercise than others. And no, two walks a day is not enough. Three is the minimum. You should take him out first thing when you get up, when you get home from work, and right before bed. As long as the dog gets enough exercise there should be no issues. If your dog does not get enough exercise, you will find that he will become destructive out of boredom.

I live in an apartment and got a puupy from the humane society, since it was a puppy she really doesn't know any different, and it definitely helps with lonliness! I take her to the park, Petsmart, and to friends houses with backyards, and on long walks to get her a good amount of exercise, it's working out fine, the only thing with puppies is potty training!!! So the deposit on the carpet becomes an issue

First, is is okay with your landlord? Second, be sure to choose one that is calm and doesn't need a ton of exercise. Like as cute as they are, don't pick a Jack Russell terrier. Smaller dogs would obviously be better. And crate train it so you don't have the mess and can confine it safely while you are gone.

Check with the landlord see if its ok and if it is then you would probably only be allowed to have a small dog. You need to make sure to take the dog out on a walk every so often.

the question should be are you ready the responsibility of caring for a Puppy? There's potty training them, feeding them at least 3 times a day (when they are little), cleaning after them, getting their shots ... If you are then you've got to think about what kind of breed of dog is suitable to you. A jack russell may be small enough for your apartment but can you handle a hyperactive dog?

If you have the time to spend housebreaking the puppy, and you get a small one that won't be cramped, then its great. But check with the apartment mangement first, there is probably a pet deposit.

Ofcourse, just do some research and find one that thrives in small spaces and isnt a hyper breed. Shih tzus are good but you can find plenty more. Look on akc.com and search the breeds. Good luck!!
