Hi Thunderstruck, yep 6220 Coronation 114 mph approaching Crewe, but she was a streamliner.

I needed to know the fastest GWR loco last week and could not find it on the internet, no one answered my question right so I had to go to the library.
It also turned out to be the fastest recorded speed by a non streamliner and possibly the fastest speed by an ordinary scheduled steam hauled train in the uk.
6015 King Richard III on 29th march 1955 on the Cornish Riviera Express near Athelney approaching Taunton 108.5 mph, half a mile per hour faster than Gresleys Papyrus, the next fastest non streamliner.
6015 was being tested in ordinary service to test the benefits of a double chimney.
the fastest uk non streamlines steam loco unless someone out there knows different.

Didn't a LMS Coronation hit well over the ton in the 30's just south of Crewe (can't remember the name or number, sorry).

Just a guess.
